if you're slipping your clutch so it doesn't bog, your clutch will soon hate you, but your tranny will be fine

Some cars come standard with a mechanism that automatically skips gears depending on driving condition. (ie. '98-'02 Camaros, I don't believe the Trans Am did this though) Its called "Skip Shift" and makes the transmission go directly from 1st gear to 4th when your driving like a grandma. If GM does it from the factory, then its probably because it doesn't hurt a thing. Depending on how many gears you skip, I would let the clutch out slowly though.

ALL t56-equipped F bodys have the skip shift. And it is very easily and cheaply disabled. It wont hurt the tranny, but it does put more stress (load) on the motor.

Cool, for some reason, as far as I can remember, all the WS6's I've ever driven didn't have the Skip Shift thingy. Maybe I just didn't notice it or something. Does the '03 Cobra have Skip Shift then too? It has a T56, or is it just the F-bodies. Either way, its a pretty cool design.

You can drive through 1st without ever hitting it, you probably skipped it by luck.

It took me 2 months to get used to it, now I very rarely see my skipshift engage.

Mine forces me to shift from 1st to 4th. This is something from the factory so it must be safe
