VW guys get in here!!! GLI question.
Ok guys I've been looking for a while into buying 04-05 VW Jetta GLI, but I would like to know a little more about them. I already did a little re-search on them, but couldn't find much information. So now I would like to get your opinion on this car and I also want to know the good & bad things about it.
Thanks in advance.

Good: You can chip it for a cheap power gain, has a nicer interior than most Japanese cars
Bad: VW quality varies, these engines have sludge issues, Jettas are chick cars
There are a shit-ton of VW forums with all the information you could possibly need. This site is mostly for Hondas.

Granted, this is a totally biased source. Check vwvortex for more balanced info.

They're slow, don't handle well, and break a lot. That about somes up volkswagens. On the upside, the 6 speed is fun to row through, and you'll gain instant friends from other VW owners.

Re: VW guys get in here!!! GLI question.
The cars ride and handle well, I love the recaro seats that they have. The general consensus is that 300whp seems to be the limit on the 1.8t before internals start to break. Power up to that point is pretty cheap to obtain..just make sure that the timing belt and water pump is taken care of, as their failure is the end of the engine pretty much. Check out www.vwvortex.com for any information on either the engine or the vehicle itself.
The sludge issue is a bit overrated- yes it is the 1.8t's that had the issue...but mostly in the passatt's due to a different design on the oil pan, not letting the car cool properly...etc.. although it did happen on jetta's occasionally as well.
Hope that helps a bit...I've had my fair share of vw's, and do love the GLI's, especially that year range, as it's probably the only Jetta I would consider.
