For that amount of money, you can get the ECU chipped and get tuned or have someone modify the VTEC crossover RPM on a stock program. That way the ECU will switch maps when it engages VTEC, which the VTEC controller isn't capable of doing. I don't like VTEC controllers or other piggybacks, fooling the ECU is never a good idea. Do it right or don't do it at all is my opinion.

What happens if you have an aftermarket ECU (no extra tuning) and a VTEC controller? Is that a total waste?

It's a total waste to have a vtec controller if you have any type of ECU that is capable of being tuned.

Apologies to OP for thread jack but could this potentially cause VTEC to not engage properly? I seem to be having a problem with that recently and I think my VTEC controller may be the culprit.

Remove/bypass the VTEC controller and see if that works better. Not the highest quality electronics usually.

I used to have the Apexi' Neo in my itr hatch, and it made it run rough, like it was camming. And the weirdest thing was that vtec engaged at different points every gear...1st gear it was like 5000 rpm, 2nd was like 4500 rpm, 3rd was like 6000 rpm.

Then i took the stupid thing out and it ran fine for a few months...until it dropped a valve!

so would I have to retune my ECU if I remove the VTEC controller or should it be fine?
