I haven't registered a vehicle in a few years. Is registration cost determined by the price of the vehicle or is it a flat fee for all vehicles?

Unless you have a bill of sale indicating what you purchased the car for then it's going to be 3% of the cars worth. If the car isn't worth over a certain amount ( i can't remember ) like 3k or something then it's a flat fee.

Registration is $40.75 (for cars less than 4k lbs) + 3% tax (minimum of $35)

Don't forget about the annual tag fee on top of personal property tax and license fee. I got my bills recently and can't tell if the 25 dollars per vehicle licensing fee is whole year or every 6 months. Of course, this is for Spotsylvania County and may not be the same across VA. I heard Fairfax and other parts of NOVA are much worse; they got to pay for social programs somehow. It really adds up to have multiple vehicles or new(er) vehicles now.
