Towing horror stories

drag757 OG here. what are your tow truck towing horror stories? i'm thinking of offering a service for those trying to avoid tow truck companies jacking your ish up, utilizing my racecar trailer. does this happen enough that people would prefer someone to take care in moving a vehicle as opposed to yanking it up on a flat bed? (i.e. not smashing the front bumper up).

many tow companies offer flatbed towing for add'l charge anyways.

if you want to run a tow service, liability insurance will take away any profit. plus, you'd be dealing with honda kids crying that you scratched their bumper and want you to pay for an entire re-paint.

I only use rollbacks, and all the guys I use locally know what they're doing enough to not damage any of my cars regardless.(Cliffs, Byrds, Big Daddy)

Word to the wise, find a trustworthy company or two and stick with them.

Never had any problems when I had a lowered car and a rollback. Guy even had boards to help if anything came near hitting.

I don't think you'll make any profit considering vehicle maintenance, fuel cost, trailer maintenance, insurance and people not wanting to pay what you think they'll pay.

Re: Towing horror stories

When I was 19 I bought a Laser AWD. Apparently the brakes were slightly seized when I bought it. 3 days later the clutch was toast. That was the first dumb mistake on my part. The car shit out just before the tunnel. Second dumb mistake was, the tow truck shows up, hooks up the car and starts towing it to a parking lot. A little ways down the street the rear wheels lock up and the car slides sideways. The tow truck driver looked at me like I was an idiot (rightly so) and says "it that AWD?" Yeah. I had no idea it would do that.

So the horror was my own doing.
