I have a car, this was more for leisurely rides. One was a friend who I had brought with me to look at it.

Not the best person to make sure that if there was any legal issue with it. Get to the person who you bought the car off and see whats up and ask them why they didn't tell you about it.
Hopefully they stop being gay and tell you the truth and pay the debt they owe on it to rid the lien.
