in search of an older bmw...
So earlier today I was rear ended and I'm 99.999999% sure my insurance company will total it out and pay me for it. My uncle had an old BMW 5 series that I loved, but being 16 with no real knowledge of cars I found myself in the Honda world. Anywho, I'm looking to get into one of these once the smoke settles, but I'm lost on where to look for an honest deal, and I have no knowledge in the German world. I was wondering if this is a path I should continue to look down and if so, am I setting myself up for failure? I'm a college student who's working and living on my own, well sorta, and I have a decent job that currently gives me some extra cash after the bills are paid.
Opinions?

An older M5 5 series are the most reliable. (E42's) Early 3 series are fun. (E30's) E36's start getting expensive. Anything later starts getting really expensive really quick. (E46's). Just get cheap E30 and swap it (think duanes selling one) stupid fun and fairly reliable.
I know ed (forget sn on here) has one. Shit moves out and he dd's the fuck out of it w/ little to no problems.

^lol
buy my e34 ! 93 525i, maybe the same one your uncle had
chck my thread if your interested
as far as a honest deals goes, its best to know your stuff before trying to purchase a car, ive been screwed over pretty bad in the past because my lack of knowledge in the automotive world. BMWs definitely a good way to go if your looking for reliability and comfort, just keep in mind the costs of maintenance and parts.

I'm here for the herpes!
Wait.
All kidding aside I looked at e30s and 5 series' up to about 98. I feel based on what I've seen so far I could keep them maintained with little outside (read: stealership) help and not break my monthly budget
