Remote Start systems

Im looking for a place in newport news/hampton that can install a remote start on my wife's 2008 toyota highlander. I would like to use the factory remote with the new system. If anyone has any info on a good place that can install this please let me know.

Call the dealership and see what they say. Might have a fancy way to do it. Called dodge for my dads truck and they faxed us the instructions to do it ourselves.

Re: Remote Start systems

You should see if there is an OEM remote start module for that vehicle, as most decent vehicles (not low-end) have that option available for the automatic transmission models. That's not the cheapest route usually but it's completely validated for that vehicle and is usually a direct plug-and-play installation with no tampering with the wiring necessary. Worst case you might have to buy a different harness local to the module or it may be included with the module. The remotes might change but they usually look pretty much the same with maybe an extra button or two.

Oh, and there might be some minor dealer reprogramming of transmission modules or body modules necessary with an OEM module, depends on the particular vehicle. That adds to the price obviously.

Re: Remote Start systems

Yes there is a standalone module for the highlander as long as its a promixity key to integrate into the factory key.
If it is a traditional key then you need a remote start unit plus bypass module for immobilizer.

its a regular key with the oem alarm system. I dont mind driving if the service and product is great and it can be done in a few hours.

Re: Remote Start systems

Start your vehicle with the key and try your oem key fob to lock and unlock.
It shouldnt work.
So your options are it can be integrated to oem key fob BUT once running doors will either be locked or unlocked which ever you choose.
Toyota locks out any keyless while running on regular key vehicles 90% of the time.
If you want keyless while running you will have to carry an aftermarket key fob to control the lock and unlock pulses to the vehicle.
