Default Remote Start Install

Normally I would use a friend, or a friend of a friend for the install. But this is a gift, and the person receiving this is the type of person that if it wasnt done by a shop it isnt done right. I currently live in VB, and my mom lives in Maine. The car is currently in Maine, and will stay there forever. With super cold winters, and older age, the remote start sure would be nice.

The car is a 2010 Rav4. I would like to buy a remote start, and have it installed. Any recommendations as for brand? Best Buy said for the remote start, and install for $299. Theres another place that said $369 and a life time warranty. Dealer said it would be $599 for an after market and $799 for OEM.

I did some light reading and the car has 'smart start', from what I can gather this is basically an immobilizer. Best Buy said the car would need a bypass (im assuming this would be so you dont need a key kept inside the car).

I completely understand that most shops will do a half assed install, and most people I know can do a better job. Not looking to break the bank, just would be nice for the winter.

Just looking for any recommendations as far as brand and any suggestions.

Thanks.

viper 5701v or the 5704 are very good. You can find them on amazon for under 200$ and then take it to a shop to get it installed usually for another 150-200 with the bypass. keep calling shops and read their reviews.

I just installed a viper 5901. It's an alarm w remote start on it and a 2 way Pager on it. Pretty happy with so far. Do not let Best Buy install it unless you want the car to catch fire.

What's funny is I was just looking at remote starts at bestbuy lol. Heard some horror stories, but I need a remote start for when it gets really cold..

black car, black leather, cold as fuck when cold and hot in the summer lol

Yea. It's usually better to talk to the installer before you buy or commit to anything at any installation locations. The locatio'ns reviews are always helpful in making some decisions.
