Default redoing the clear coat on my wheels

the clear coat is fucking up a bit.

does anyone have any tips on refinishing them?

they are 3 piece and i need the face refinished.

so lets get this straight

take apart wheels, apply a shitload of paint thinner to the centers, when satisfied rinse off and clean, then apply 2-3 coats of new clear coat, then put back together.

anyone whos done this got tips or product recommendations?

Aircraft stripper works fast and well. Clean the wheels very well afterward and give an alcohol or paint prep degreaser wipedown to get any remaining residue off. If you want the clearcoat to last a long time, get them painted with an automotive clearcoat. Spray can clear works OK but won't have the durability and gloss that a decent spraygun clearcoat will. It's the same as painting bodywork, if you want the best results then quality products are the only way to go. If you just want to protect or touchup a small area, a spraycan can work OK.

ok then i guess powdercoating is the way to go, but probably wont happen this summer.

next question, its actually just the middle near the centercaps thats starting to tarnish and bubble a little instead of stripping the clearcoat completely off, can i just wet sand the spot and apply a bit of clear coat over it?

Yeah, you can touch it up however you want. It will all come off the same when you strip it down before repainting later.
