Default Radar detector thread! Help me out..

So I'm getting ready for the Ocean City car & truck show in early June. A few people are going to pitch in and get my a birthday present, and I figure my best bet is a high end radar detector.

There are 3 that I'm looking at, each has their own advantage.

Escort Solo S2 - cordless
Escort 8500 X50 - best features and range
Valentine 1 - stand alone face plate, I've heard of it being hidden in the third brake light housing which is perfect for me because I have a disabled 3rd brake light and the aftermarket M-tek spoiler, does this actually work? Will frontal performance be limited because it has to see through the car?

I have no idea what to get.. someone help me out.

V1 is always a good choice, but I'm really leaning towards purchasing a cordless radar detector for my trip to the beach..... Coolness factor = 10.

You could try obeying the speed limits?

I will/do obey the speed limits but it's nice to know where the cops are, if I'm following the flow of traffic which is doing 10 over the limit let's say, there isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that the cop will pull ME over. I've been pulled over 11 times in this thing, for the smalllllest things (ie they find reasonable suspicion for something small, and pull me over in hopes of getting something bigger - or just wasting my time.) Those are pretty bad numbers to begin with, but I know there will be a cop set up at every damn stop light once I get into OC, it'd be nice to have some advanced warning (and get a chance to test the thing out.)
