What exactly is the point of a VTEC Controller??????

To adjust VTEC in 100rpm increments to fine tune when your VTEC will engage. Some like the V-AFC can adjust VTEC and A/F.

ohh ok, cause i know alot of my friends civics, vtec kicks in aroudn 4K......mine comes in around 5500 give or take a little. I would like it to come in around 4500. I need to find one of these.

4k is really low, I heard that takes away from top end power, but I'm no expert on engine tuning.

If your vtec kicks in too soon, it opens the valves further even though the engine still isn't sucking in much air. This means the air flowing into the combustion chamber is moving slower and in the end less air gets in. Imagine that you stuck your finger in the end of a water hose, it starts spraying out farther and faster. When you take your finger off the hose, water gently flows out. So think about your engine sucking in air at a medium rate(4,000 rpms) and then you open the valves higher by hitting vtec (taking your finger off the water hose), now the air is flowing with with less force. Basically it's going to take a few more seconds for the air to gain the force it needs to utilize the larger valve opening efficiently. The way i've read to set vtec engagement is to run on a dyno with it at 4,000 rpms and then run again with it set at 6,000 rpms, find out what rpm the torque curves cross at on the dyno sheet and set it at that rpm.
