Preparing for a decently long drive
Allright, so on the 28'th I'm meeting my brother, whom I've not seen in 15 years- in Ocean Chity, Maryland. No- that's not a long drive. The day after a fun night in Ocean City, we're going up to Danbury, Connecticut. I'll be staying up there for about a month, where I got this awesome oppertunity I can't refuse, and I may very well be collecting a 2003 Porsche Boxter; or more than likely finishing my car while I'm there. Than I'm driving back here to VB. I'm almost thanking I'm not dumped- I don't like what I hear about I-95 up north. I know common sense tells me what I need to bring- but is there anyhting you guys suggest? Any interesting shit to do or go see on my way up or down? I'll be taking 2 spares, a jack and tools, plenty to drink, a fresh pack of smokes, a sammich or two, iPod, cameras, got the GPS, fresh oil change it about needs it anyway, extra oil- dont know of much else besides a few gallons of water. Do you tape off your cars- if so, how well does it work, how long will it stay- without damaging paint?

Re: Preparing for a decently long drive
When ever I'd drive the CRX from Virginia to Michigan, I'd always take a ~100 piece tool kit with me. Just in case. This damn car has a reputation for rotor buttons coming off the shaft.
When I'd drive the Mach1 that far (very, very seldom) I'd put a bra on the front and apply 3M Painter's tape to all the outer surfaces of the bra to protect from rubbing due to the buffeting of the bra. The tape held up just fine, but keep in mind, the bra was taking the brunt of the force.
Prior to leaving, check all your fluids and the air pressure in your tires. The correct air pressure in the tires can have a noticeable affect.

Re: Preparing for a decently long drive
I would bring up the car to running temp, leave it running for a hour or so, and just observe the coolant system. You might waste a tad bit of gas, but this way you can see any bubbling hoses, or hoses that aren't functioning properly.
