Take it out and put a new manual rack in.

Ditto... it'll make the engine bay cleaner and easier to get to things. I'm dropping power steering on all my cars as soon as I swap the motors.

From what I understand, PS uses less than 1hp and that is when you are turning. In straight line, there is no HP gain at all with or without the pump. Only benefit is weight reduction.

I am going with a manual box on my T/A for a cleaner install with the new motor and for weight savings. The Alternator will be the only belt driver accessory on my car.

I'm also switching to manual steering for those reasons. It's ALOT (... and I can't stress it enough) to change the plugs and oil filter on a RX7 with the PS and AC removed. It also makes engine swaps alot easier and faster along with a cleaner looking engine bay.

taking it out you will recieve a little more than 1 hp. the unit is belt driven and when you remove it takes less effort for the engine to turn that belt. I took out my ps and ac completely out my car. It freed up ALOT of room in my engine bay and improved my time by atleast .5 sec.

1hp more is a 10% increase in power on your car, that is why it felt so much more.
When the car is going in a straight line, the PS Pump isn't doing any work.
