Default Is DEI high temp silicone coating for header wrap just grill paint?

So I was at the car parts store last weekend getting som heat shielding for my battery and grabbed a can of this....

I had put header wrap on my H-pipe to keep the trans cooler and figured it'd be a good idea to seal it. Well last night I sprayed it on and I swear it's just black spray paint.... I couldn't tell it apart from the cans of black "grill" paint I've been using on blank rotors for years. Looking at the description it even says "and even on your grill at home."

HT Silicone Coating
The High Temperature (HT) Silicone Coating provides lasting protection for any hot surface up to 1500 degrees. DEI recommend the use of this coating with their exhaust wrap because it seals the material and provides lasting protection from oil, dirt and road grime. Don't limit the use to exhaust header wrap, this products works well on headers, blocks, starters and even on your grill at home.
So is it acually some sort of high temp silicone spray or is it just black spray paint a 3x the cost?

-Brian

IDK, see if spray paint can hold up to 1500 degrees?

I guess my point is that I've used silicone spray before... I use it on my ski all the time and on garage door tracks etc... this stuff looks like spray paint, smells like spray paint, and dries like paint.

I mean if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck....

Probably is, I just used it because it made my rusty exhaust manifold look pretty again. I had the "aluminum" color Held up great though

my guess is maybe they added the pigment so you could tell what you had sprayed, and the pigment is what is making it look and smell like spray paint

Its actually both

Basically spray paint with a silicone agent that isn't normally in spray paint. It won't really replace a real thermal coating, if nothing else but because of the coating thickness size, but it should do something.

Cool.... yeah that's why I didn't spray it on the cats as they'll just cook it right off. I just covered the wrapped parts of the h-pipe and it does look nice.

The solvents are what makes it smell like that, so just because it smells like regular spray paint doesn't mean it is regular spray paint.
