Default legal question about s10 motor swap

So I just bought a 98 s10 ss. I think an ls1 would do this truck justice. My question is can i do this swap legally. I will keep fuel injection and everything just like it comes from the donor car. I have searched and read so much conflicting info I am not quite sure what is legal. I want it legal so i do not have to worry about state inspections or being pulled over. Anyone got a definite answer with state law to back it up.

Most inspectors would think it was pretty cool. Police won't spot an engine inside your engine bay and pull you over for it; it's not the same as blue headlights or undercar neon. So I'd say don't worry so much about it.

You're not doing anything more or less illegal than any other engine swap. Putting a B16 in a CRX or EF is just as legal or illegal, because it never came in that car either. For emissions reasons, in many states it's usually okay if the engine is newer than the chassis. Buuuuut there's usually more to it than that.
