Keep the 240, or rock the dub
well i have a 1990 240sx that ive put some time and money into ( just to fix it, nothing special) and over the weekend i rode in a relly nice vw golf, and was fairly impressed with it. Im still undecided if i should sell my 240 to my brother and then use that money and then some and get veedub. what are your thoughts on this

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
dont be stupid keep the SX
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
like your user name says... 240sx FTW
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
yea but the 240 is, well beaten up, that and mother brother has in the past offered to buy it for 2+ grand, and if you saw the 240 in real life, its haggard, but has potential, that and my friend had his vw all euro spec, and it was pretty badass

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
If you want to wrench a little then keep the 240 and mod it. Rock the dub if you want to have a nice boring daily

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
I loved my friends VR6 golf, was a fucking blast to drive.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
yeah thats why i asked you guys, but i relly liked his car, and the 240 is haggard to the extreme
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
240! RWD is awesome and I miss it.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
ahh im so undecided on this
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
Like I said if you like to wrench the 240 will be much more fun since you can actually mod it a lot more than the GTI since the aftermarket isn't as expensive. Also RWD>FWD. You can keep the dub and mod it a little and have a nice daily or mod the crap out of the 240 and have fun with it. Your choice, I'd keep the 240

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
Sell the 240 to your brother and get another 240 that's in better shape.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
dubs break too damn much......
i have a friend whos been through something like 3 clutches and 4 transmissions on different cars and his new car has run right for 10mins since he bought it. get a dub only if you truly want one and be prepared to drop monies into it alot. theres a mottofor vw's, "if the check engine light isnt on, thats when i am worried." i also have owned 2 vw's and not one has ever run. i finally gave up and threw one away and am paying someone to fix my 84 Rabbit. |
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
i honestly can believe you are asking to keep the 240 or get a vw. keep the 240...get a body kit for it...nice wheels....paint it.....get a motor swap....and drift that 240! with a vw u cant have as much fun really.....i mean u cant drift it all u can do is make it look bad ass....thats it....i mean yeah it might be alittle fast but think of a 240 with an ls1 swap....see? i know u r thinking about that and the potential u have with a 240 vs a vw. there is endless things to do with a 240.
keep the nissan. mine is haggard as well but it runs great and i can drive the piss out of it without worries. something breaks its relativley cheap to fix vs a vw. specially a gti golf. i will admit the golf is nice...they look nice. but nothing i want with what i want to do....if u spent some money on that 240 and got her looking nice or even bought yourself a 240 in better shape u could look nice and do pretty much anything as far as racing goes if ur into that sort of thing. just my opinion though.....if u r gonna get rid of the 240 let me know i might want it |
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
240's are sexier
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
If the ride is so haggard you should have sold it a long time ago to your brother and bought another S13
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
sell the 240 and buy my GTI!!!!
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
well when i bought the 240, it didnt seem to bad, till i started doing work on it, and realized how much work it needed, wish i could buy you gti dude, but im 16 i cant afford 12.5 grand, my parents dont pay for shit and i only make 7 an hour
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
How much work does it really need. I mean if its alot of major stuff buy another 240 or a more reliable car. If its stuff that wont' take much for it to get running fix it so you don't have to worry about breaking down on the road. Then when you got money do the up grades, then the body mods, then in the end paint, and audio. If its not gonna be a race car.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
its not major, so far ive replaced : all belts, 10w30 oil, new tranny oil, new front ball joints, all new brakes all around( pads, calipers, rotors) new passenger seat, and i still have to get new front tires, new hood,( my tarded dad backed into it and creased it) and straighten it out
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
240
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
If you like to spend lots of money and make no power than get a VW. A 240 with mods is a lot more fun than a FWD VW with lots of mods. Keep the 240 or like another person said; sell it and get one in better condition.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
240 hands down.
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
vws = gay, for you even asking that question, u should be stuck with the dub
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
get a mk3 vr6 gti, supercharge it and call it a day
|
Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
whatever, im still undecided, once i fix everything with the 240, i will know if i want to keep it or not

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
Here's some advice.
First, what kind of VW did you ride in? Year/Model/Mods? What made it so special.... Speed? Performance? Looks? Second, if you are only 16, I'd stick with something cheap, slow, and reliable. That way, you can keep the insurance down and not get too many tickets. You will save billions of dollars in insurance premiums in the long run if you can keep your driving record clean for another 10 years. Doesn't have to be a Nissan or VW, just something that makes you happy to drive it. Third, since you are so young, don't be bummed out about driving a POS. Like I said, just get something cheap, slow, and reliable. Save your hard earned money for gas and other necessities. Concentrate on school, go to college/learn a trade/start a business, then reward yourself with something nice when you get out and get a real job and make real money. So, how reliable is the 240? If it runs well, then just fix up little bits and pieces as needed to make it clean. Save up for paint, new interior bits, whatever. This could actually turn out to be a good investment, since clean 240's are hard to come by. If the 240 makes you really unhappy and you really want a VW, then look for something stock that hasn't been beat up on. I've owned an '88 Cabriolet, '92 Cabriolet, '92 GTI 2.0l 16v, '97 GTI VR6, '98 Jetta VR6, '00 Eurovan VR6, and '04 R32. Other than the '88 Cab, all have been extremely reliable, rock solid, and fun cars to drive. I'm not saying all VW are super reliable, but we can help you avoid some of those that are prone to problems. |

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
dont get a dub, they look good and thats about where they end...but check out your other options in your price range dont get set on one or two things...

If you can afford VR6, then great... but the 2.0l 4-cyl is quite dependable if you are not looking for much in the speed department. VR6's are dependable too, but require new timing chains every 100k miles or so (which require R&R of the tranny). Not really that bad when you replace the clutch at the same time. Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
sexy little car man, thats why i like them, its not to flashy, draws your attention and keeps you there, not like a car that has a fat wing and some big ass rims, you lose interest in it, that is just awsome

Re: Keep the 240, or rock the dub
i will try and get pictures of the car that i rode in, pure sex
