Default kbb? am i crazy to offer more?

theres this car im looking to buy. kbb it clocks in at 4500 however their asking price is like 8000. im ususally very rational but im becoming desperate. im from va beach and ive been looking for the last four months, from maryland, to nova, to north carloina to south carolina; ive travelled and been disappointed. the car is rare to come by in good condition.

so anyway, i take a look at this car and its in perfect condition. low milage. too good to be true. however the price was killing me. he told me that somebody already offered him 5000, 500 over the kbb.com value, which i believed him due to the great condition! and low milage!, not to mention that i was thinking about offering that to him in the first place before i even arrived! i rethought about it and offered him $6000. am i crazy? he told he would think about my offer because he wants to sell it.

so am i crazy or stupid or both. should i risk this one slipping away and search on, or bite the bullet and pay. i really biased towards this type of car and looked high and low to find one in great cond. usually im very rational and strong believe in not paying over the value but like im tired of waiting.

thanks for reading.

It all depends on the demand of the car really... hondas/acuras have the highest resale value, and usually ALWAYS sell for higher than their kbb... some double.

kbb isnt always right. i know i was looking for a vw corrado awhile back and blue book was like 1300 and theres no way in hell you can find one for that much in good condition. some cars are worth more or less than what it says. have you tried looking on craiglist and ebay also? it might be worth it to fly out somewhere further away and drive it back. you might also say what kind of car it is for more opinions
