Insurance Questions
Ok so I recently bought a new car and took the insurance off of my old beater. But I still have the plates on the car and parked outsiide until i can find the time to sell it.
How long do i have until have to turn the plates in and how would i get caught for having an uninsured vehicle and what are the fines?
Do you think it will be ok as long as I am not driving it?

Re: Insurance Questions
Why didn't you just keep insurance on the old car until you sold it? Much less of a hassle not having to worry about getting popper for no insurance which could result in you having to file an SR22.

Turn the plates in as soon as you can.
Some insurance companies notify DMV when you drop your coverage, and sometimes DMV does spot checks. You may go months/years or you may go a few weeks before receiving a letter from DMV asking for proof of insurance from a certain day...you just never know.
If you get caught, they usually require you to pay the uninsured motorists fee of $500 plus suspension of your license and other vehicle registration, reinstatement fees, and required to file an SR-22 for 3 years
