I have been searching around the internet for the last couple days but seem to be getting mixed information.

Don't tell me to google this.

I'm wondering If anyone has any personal experience with getting an auto dealers license (independent or wholesale). I am mostly curious about getting the license without having to have an actual lot or building, just the ability to sell more than 5 cars a year and attend auctions. I have seen people do it in other states, but as usual, VA seems to be a lot more strict about this shit.

Can't do it without an actual place of business. Even a wholesaler has to operate under a dealer, or have their own lot or place of business.

You HAVE to have a retail storefront with posted hours of at least 25hrs a week.
You HAVE to have a 50k bond for the first three years of operation
You HAVE to have a landline phone
You HAVE to have a copy machine

As of next year, you will HAVE to have internet access (which honestly, how its gone this long without being required astounds me).

As a dealer-owner, you can have an ID tag on your and your spouses vehicles, as a dealer-salesman you can only use it on your own vehicle or ones being purchased. If you are a dealer-salesman you have to be a W2'd employee of the dealer.

Unless you plan on selling more than 10-20 cars a year, it is a huge money losing clusterfuck.
