Importing vehicle from USA to Germany
I'm pcs'ing to Germany this spring (about mid April). I was wondering if anyone had any real experience with importing a US car to GE, especially folks who are military. I'm concerned about taking the gvr4 there because of how modded it is and wondering if itll meet their customs or tuv standards since its a 20 year old modified car. Anyone know how long the process takes? I won't have much time between getting back from Afghanistan then going to Germany (maybe 3 week time between).
I really love my car and I do NOT want to sell her plus i dont have the time to either. It'll be getting painted and all the rust repaired when I'm gone so when I get back she'll be beautiful. Id hate to have to sell her especially in a short time frame.

Re: Importing vehicle from USA to Germany
That was me. My Supra is here in Germany. What part are you PCS'ing to? It depends on where you take your vehicle to get inspected at. Heidelberg and Baumholder are somewhat more relaxed, and generally can pass your car as long as you don't have attrocious leaks or mass smoking out your exhaust. Still must test under 94db IIRC. NO TINT. It's an instant failure. If you're military then TUV has nothing to do with you. Also, the process is pretty quick... it's comparable to a day spent in DMV.
However, if you fail for something retarded, you've created a paper trail and an inspector at another station may turn you away thinking you may be cheating the system. Normally it's a german inspecting your car.

Geilenkirchen is where I'm going it right on the border of Belgium. The car has no leaks or tinted Windows and no smoking either.
