Lightbulb Ideas and Opinions?

Alright, here's my story...awhile ago my grandmother passed on, and left us a decent size inheritance (10grand) to be spent...however. Parents want us to get a car with it, problem is they want us to purchase a NEW car and not have to make any payments on it. The idea is that we have a car that'll last us through college and the first year or so where we're out on our own. Problem is that with 10k, the only car you can buy starts with K and ends with A (read KIA). My brother bought one and is totally unhappy about it. He's had a handful of problems with it and its already worth less then half of what he paid for it a year or two ago.

Well, mom dukes came up this weekend for my birthday on monday and we started talking about the issue.... after finally realizing that you cannot completly buy a decent car for 10k, she settled on the idea of things 2000+. What Im looking for are ideas and suggestions from you guys.

I've already found a 00 civic SI, a 00 GTI VR6, and plenty of 00 and 01 Jetta's for 10 grand.

 I dunno, I guess Im just looking for any suggestions and/or hot tips regarding cars on sale. Looking to most likely get something this summer unless something so perfect comes along. Im at school at RU right now but I call NN home, which pretty much means in my commute home I can stop just about anywhere to check out a ride. Any help is very much appreciated

i'd say go with the GTI, IMO. A well built car that'll last you a while and will have a good resale value. Plus i think they look a hell of a lot better than a civic...

You might be able to find a third gen RX7 for $10k.

I would never be able to afford insurance on a third gen RX7. My parents would laugh at me if I showed them one.

On the other hand, that GTI is 2 years old and has 90k miles.... doesnt that seem a little high to anyone else?

Honda Civic Si '99-'00. There's got to be some out there that you can find...but prices will probably go up come summer.

I've got a friend with an SI for sale, all stock, great shape, not too many miles. PM me if you want his info. He's asking a fair deal.
