Default How do you wash your detail/shop rags/towels? At home? Any risk?

I have a huge box of towels/rags/buffer bonnets that I haven't washed in years. Some have car detail stuff on them and others have car fuilds on them. I was thinking of splitting into 3 groups:

1. car detail/lighly soiled

2. unk/med. soiled

3. petroleum products/heavily soiled.

Then washing the first 2 groups at home and taking the 3rd to a laundromat. Will the stuff get flushed out in my home washer or is there risk of contaminating my washer and getting my normal clothes etc. dirty? If not, then I'll just wash all 3 groups at home. If there is risk, even w/ the car detail rags, then I'll take all 3 to the laundromat.

Thanks,

Brian

I've washed a load of my "petrol" covered pants in my home washer and it did not affect any of the following loads.

Take them all to get cleaned professionally. Regular detergent wont get all of the chemicals out and when drying could cause a fire. It's not worth the risk for me.

I washed a sweater all by itself that had diesel on it and the next full load of clothes stunk like diesel. I'm never messing with it again.

depends. any car wash/detailing rags i use are thrown in the washer/dryer as it's own load. a small amount of detergent, if any at all.

anything with gas or oil on it is handwashed in a bucket and rinsed a few times. if they still stink or have huge stains in them, i use them as wheel rags or just throw them out.

Cool... I'll spit my stuff up and do that.

Any tips on washing car detail rags etc? I know no fabric softener on towels b/c it puts a coating on them. Bleach ok?
