How did ya'll get started in the automotive world?

Specifically I am looking for some success stories on how to enter the custom fabrication and/or high performance market. Did you go through college? Automotive School? Which ones? What would you recommend?

I am a college student with a passion for cars and want to know how to get into the world of custom cars and motorcycles.

Then I immediately forget how to rebuild them. Ive scrapped nearly 10 of the perfectly working fuckers in my time. "Nearly" because the last guy stopped me halfway through, figured out what I had removed, and got it barely back together.

also, start with a generic automotive program like tncc's auto program. after you graduate from there go to a technical school like lanier tech.
