high mileage IS300?

i know its a toyota so its gotta be reliable. im thinking of trading my 02 civic si w/ 106k miles for a 01 IS300 w/180k miles with cash on his end.

Is this stupid?

Your car is worth about 7-8k, and his is probably worth about 5-6k, and thats if it is in awesome condition. I wouldnt do it, unless he gives you about 1500-2k on top.

Re: high mileage IS300?

High mileage IS300 > high mileage EP3 all day,any day. And thats definitely not saying much.

Re: high mileage IS300?

I think his point is that assuming his si is tastefully modded or stock, he can probably get much more than what the is300 is worth, in turn, allowing him to buy a much better is300.

Mucho cash on top or dont trade...just my 2 cents.

Re: high mileage IS300?

thanx for all your input even the bad. you either love or hate a EP i think mines pretty nice and tastefully modded. im asking 9,500 for mine. heres the link to it showing what i got.
https://www.vadriven.com/forums/honda-101/02-civic-si-rimed-lowered-great-dd-262702/

i was thinking 1200 to 1500 plus the IS since mines worth more value wise.

this guy must get beat by a whole lotta hondas... seems like every honda thread is laced with this dude hatin... :dunno:

in the spirit of fairness i would say, whats your motivation? if youre trying to bump to a luxury 4 door with a little sportiness to it and you cant afford a new school TL then the IS is the way to go. just make sure you get someone who knows what the heck they're doing to take a look at it before the deal is final

The Is300 with 18000 miles on it in fair condition is around 6k.

Re: high mileage IS300?

As long as it appears to be in good working order and was taken care of I wouldn't be afraid to do that. Especially if he's giving you cash with it.

Do it asap.

Do it, put the extra cash aside, continue to save more cash and put a new motor in it.

Theres always the 2jz swap as well.

That was one of the dumbest things ive heard in a long time. When have you seen me in multiple "Honda" threads "hatin" on people that own them? Considering I came from the honda crowd not too long ago,the only thing that I still laugh at,is people that think FWD will ever be superior to RWD or AWD in the drag racing world.

I give credit when credit is due,and owning a EP3,I will never give credit to anyone thats an owner. It is in fact a dead end car, which is why you can buy them for almost the same price,or actually cheaper than a tastefully modded EM1. It was by far the least popular SI made,as well as the least powerful (thats not saying much either). I dont care if your car made Honda tuning,SCC,or whatever import magazine that is in right now. It doesnt take away from the fact that the car has no performance,or appearance appeal what so ever.

The last "honda" I got beat by,was a K swapped EK hatch. It certainly wasnt an EP3,nor did it have EP3 powertrain underneath the hood. But lets look at the statistics :

He spent probably somewhere between 4-6k on the swap,Engine managment,bolt-ons,and a tune. I spent lets see here...200$ on a CAI,and about 180$ on a 4.10 ring and pinion gear. Guess what?? it took him until 6th gear to actually pull away from me,from a 60 roll in 3rd gear. Congrats. It was definitely a nice car,but at the end of the day,I would rather have a decent performing vehicle with simple everyday features like cruise control,A/C,power steering and other things than just a "Fast" car. I dont give a shit if the IS300 has super high mileage,if the guy throws cash on top,do it.

Im sorry you got pissed off at the truth. Let me re-iterate it again for you : YOU own a dead end vehicle. You want advice but you want to get mad when someone tells you the truth??? Dont post again then.

Ohh yeah, Dont even bother - repping me on some dumb shit for getting butthurt.

as you quoted " kinda pissed me off but i JUST LET IT GO" no need to be a Dick since you may have a faster car. yeah ppl either hate or love EP3s i went from a 95 M3 to my 02 EP3 just cause i went to college and needed reliability and good gas mileage. i never once claimed my civic was SUPIOR or SICK or BADASS in any way. Simply asked and simple question.

thanx to all the ppl who stayed on topic : )

Yes, but not the tt 2jz. I have seen some people turbo them and make great power tho. I know a guy that has one that's turbo that runs mid 12's and saw one at a dyno making 700whp. Crazy. It looked bone stock too.

Op, chill out, people just being honest :D

How am I being a dick??? please fucking explain. This has nothing to do with my car being "Faster". I dont give a shit if my car ran 10's,it does not take away my opinion from how I feel about Ep3's. You wanted opinions, you got them, and because I dont like your particular car,you and "Hondas only" are cheerleading the fact that apparently I "hate" hondas because I get "beat by them all the time" ??? Thats fucking stupid.

Either way, like I said :

IS300 > EP3. Enjoy your evening.

Re: high mileage IS300?

is300.net- go there and do a lil reading. You will learn a lot. I owned an IS300 and wish I had never sold it. Great car, very reliable, easy to upgrade. If you want it for power then you will spend a lil cash on internals and such, as you would with any car. You didn't mention or I may have missed it, but is it a manual or automatic trans. If you wanna make any power with either then you will have to deal with weak drive-train. I could go on for pages, but 2 lazy. Once again...IS300.NET

weaselzz 12-16-2008 05:19 PM

Re: high mileage IS300?

i have one right now with 83k on it and its a great car. The trans shifts funny and stutters but it is something that you have to live with.

Its not an M3 or even a 3 series for that matter, but it is quiet, rides really well for the short wheel base and lo pro tires, handles decently, is upscale and comfortable on the inside, and is an all around great car.

The power and the gas mileage are my two biggest complaints. Expect any where from 19 to 22 around town and 26 on the highway (that was my best by the way).

I drove an EP3 once and was not impressed at all. I think that my EG hatch had it beat just about every where except for the interior. Matter of opinion though

I would say look for another one that has a few less miles that is around the same price or you could just buy mine for 14K in two months.

Re: high mileage IS300?

thanx imma check it out.

NiceNloW 12-16-2008 05:25 PM

Re: high mileage IS300?

ive owned EF, EK, del sol (EG1), DA, Accord, Prelude and i find the EP3 to be a great all around car over all my other hondas ive owned. the interior is comfy. enough power to pull out on a hill hahaha. everyones complaining about there power but mine runs decent i mean i put 2 cars on a newer firebird 5spd. i mean thats not sayin alot but they r rated at like 200 hp i think?

But im not arguing, i want something all around better. lol and i know a lexus will satisfy me.

Toyota 4 life son even tho .. I let my sc300 go I damn sure would not trade for no si .. I'd make ol' boy buy it

Have you ever owned a lexus?(if you have, then I can respect your opinion) One side of my family only buys that car brand, and while their warranty is great, and so is their service, alot of the most simple shit, you HAVE to get done at the dealership. Example: They often make headlight enclosures that can ONLY be opened with a special tool only the dealer would have, so something as simple as changing a burned out headlamp bulb can require a trip to the dealership. Another example: My uncle drives an es300, gets a new one every few years. One time the cd player would not eject the cd. He takes the car in. It takes them 2 months, they fly a specialist out to totally disassemble the cd player so he can get his cd back, then after all the trouble shooting, decide its easier to just put a brand new one in. The thing that makes this ridiculous crap ok is that they gave him a nicer ls sedan to drive while his es was being worked on, and paid for ALL the gas he used while driving it for two months. I don't know a damn thing about IS300 specifics, but if its anything like the lexus's my family has owned, It's def not worth getting one with high miles.
