What's the "ping" sound like from low octane/shitty gas?

Is it just a quick ping ping.. or does it last from x point to x point in the RPM band?

It can happen anytime your engine is under load; during acceleration at any point in the RPM band. Sounds a lot like someone shaking a coffee can full of gravel.

So it isnt high pitched? Must be a belt..hrm, it sounds very..engineish.

No, not high pitched at all, very subdued. Yes, it would happen at any RPM when the engine is under strain.

All I know is when I pull away from my house to goto school, when the cars still cold, if i shift around 2000 i'll hear a squeal/pinging sound from 1800-2000 rpm.. only then

maybe it's a belt, it doesnt sound like when people have tight/loose belts and they turn the car on.. doesnt do it till 1800-2000

i dont feel anything different, just sounds high pitched compared to all of the other RPMs
