the only way i know to get a skyline in and legally register it is to do it via canada. you got to hook up with a canadian resident who will import the car there first. next, he registers it in canada then sells it to you. you will be able to register it like any other car. you will have to pay some tax crossing the border with the car, but its not much. i've seen three skylines sold at dealer auctions in the last 10 years with legal paperwork.
There are a number of Skylines in Canada, and many pop up for sale from time to time. However, Skylines don't count under the Canadian Market category as they were never originally manufactured for exportation to the Canadian market. Thus these vehicles will be processed the same as a vehicle imported from Japan. Of course, with them simply being a "border away" it would be far easier for a Canadian Skyline to enter the gray market. Still, US Customs will have the final say at the border, and the buyer risks seizure of their vehicle."

I think it just be less of a hassle to either build it here or buy something else like a JDM spec EVO or Supra.

what to do?
I'm thinking about picking up this FD soon but there's one issue. It was imported from Japan in 05 and has been a track car and never titled or registered anywhere in the states. Its was built for everything but only saw 1/4 mile a few times. The car is in immaculate condition with just under 50k miles. Nothing has been converted its all kilometers etc... Whatsunami the best way to go about this transfer without killing my wallet along with minimum stress??

Federal wise, its not gonna be legal. If I remember correctly, only 93 FDs are legally importable. More than likely, this car was imported as a parts car and the feds are closing off that loop hole right now. You can get it state registered but if the feds pick up on it, they can confiscate the car and crush it. Just ask the guy from Wisconsin who just lost his two GTRs.
