Emissions for 98 s14 with blacktop s13 sr20det
I have seen this question asked quite a bit but all the threads seem to be 3+ years old.
I'm honestly not sure if I will be able to pass emissions and I'm having doubts about it. Can someone PM me or point me to a shop that might be able to HELP me in this situation? If I skipped a thread during my search that has a solution to this please point me to it. Thanks in advance. MrKV EDIT: Location is Northern VA, this is also for a car I will be potentially buying. The more I research the more I realize that it will not be possible due to 96+ needing OBD 2 reading. Might just have to pass on this car even though its really nice. |

You're right about the OBD-II...SRs are non-OBD compliant so there is no way to get it to pass OBD-II tests. It'll pass the sniffer tho...

What do you mean by..."help" you?

say it is garaged in some county outside of northern va where there are no emissions...my car is garaged in westmoreland county....they don't require any proof or anything along that line either

Emissions testing is done as a requirement to pass inspection, in cities/counties that require it. If you go to a city/county that doesn't require it, then you are good. No one is going to hassle you about your emissions output after the fact.

Are you allowed to get an inspection in any city/county in VA regardless of where you live?

Re: Emissions for 98 s14 with blacktop s13 sr20det
In Northern Virginia you have to pass emissions to renew your registration. It is not going to be able to be plugged in the computer so they will most likely fail it. It MIGHT pass if you have a cat on it, it is running incredibly well (most SR's run very rich) and they put it on the rollers.
Easiest thing to do is garage it in a non emissions county and pay your taxes in that county. |

You won't pass emissions no matter what because the car is OBDII. When I had my 98 240SX with SR, I garaged the car in a city that does not require emissions. I was still able to put my Fairfax address on my registration. This worked fine for my other friends who couldn't pass emissions as well.
