heres an excellent article of a 240 woopin on bimmers, not a ton of stuff has been done to it but it does have the key lsd and tire upgrades that would make the car competitive.

that mentions him being passed by e36 M3s. if an e36 is slowly passing him, an e46 is going to be lapping.
still a cool thread though. those 275s look massive on that car

Re: E46 M3 vs. S13 SR20DET w/ Tein Type HEs
Blacktop? How much power does it make? Whats the spring rates on the Tein HEs...just a general gist would be nice, "Like hard as a motherfucker." Does it still get tons of body roll? What kind of stock street tires is he running on? I have a BMI video somewhere of an E46 getting the shit smacked out of it by fairly common and stock Japanese cars like the S2k and 350z. E46 isn't that fucking great. The 350z is a 14 second car with a pretty soft suspension. These are pro drivers too(Tsuchiya was behind the M3 if I remember right), not average joes. A Fed. Elise doesn't come with a LSD if I remember right. They seem to do fine without it.
90 240sx w/s14(I guess thats what you mean by blacktop seeing as s15 motors are pretty expensive)
220 bhp
203 ft-lbs
2700lbs(rough estimate) curb weight
12.2 lbs/hp
13.3 lbs/ft-lbs
01 M3
343 bhp
269 ft-lbs
3500lbs curb weight
10.2 lbs/bhp
13 lbs/ft-lbs
skidpad .91g
Torque numbers are pretty close, but the M3 makes way more hp per lbs than his 240sx. The m3 skidpad numbers are not that impressive and I doubt at 3500lbs its very nimble. So I think its going to depend on how many straights a track has if his 240 is going to be good competition or not. If he could get another 40bhp, he'd definitely could walk some M3s at a road course if he drives well.

Re: E46 M3 vs. S13 SR20DET w/ Tein Type HEs
even though i own a 240 and should be bias, its obvious the m3 would win. sure the 240 has a weight advantage, but thats about it. all motor > Forced Induction on a road course. thats all i really need to get into. of course the driver plays a big role, but since their equal drivers.. the m3 should be an easy pick.
