Default driving a car home that you bought

Well say I buy a car in another state or a couple of hours away is there a way I can drive this home legally or do I have to transport it via tow?

edit- with title and insurance haha

As long as you have title in hand and insurance....hmmmm. Let me think on this one.

Most states have a "drive away" tag that is similar to a temporary tag. Get a copy of the title and the original bill of sale and you're fine to drive it home.

va does not have drive away tags....

It's a bitch to legally drive a car home.

I've driven one back from new york on sponger's plates, and one back from Georgia with no plates at all.

The only way to do it legally is to get the title before hand, title it in your name at a va dmv, and put pklates on it before you pick it up.

Actually, VA does have something like that. I know Black Jeff used something like that to get his Avant here from IL.

I'm trying to get the information now. There is something you print off the DMV's page, IIRC.

EDIT: I believe this is it. http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/c...emp_permit.asp

that's fuckin' cool......

I got in a heated arguement in 2001 when I bought my Type-r over this very thing, and actually got kicked out of the DMV...

So I didn't even bother with the civic....

Virginia does have Drive Away tags, due to the fact, when I got pulled over the cop said "you didn't go to DMV and get drive away plates? That was stupid"

I wouldn't have never known had Jeff not got them. It's definitely a nice way of getting something here if needed. Much better than risking getting pulled.
