Doin' some new mods
Well, it's starting again. My goal here is to do away with the seam between the quarter panels and rear bumper cover. Basically make a one piece rear clip and to smooth out a few other things.
First thing to do was to remove the rear quarters and bumper for some new mods.
Here's the buck I built to hold everything together while doing the work.
I've always thought the license plate trim on the Tiger Shark rear looked kinda stuck on and hated the tabs sticking up on the plate.
Removed everything and cut a 3/8" slot on the right side of the license recess. This will be used to insert the plate from inside the bumper.
Started prepping everything up and figuring out exactly how I was going to this. The end result here will be that the plate surround will be molded into the bumper with no visible seam.
Here's the products I'm using for this project.
Here's the license frame prepped and fitted, ready for some adhesive.
Here's the trim ring. I had to trim about 3/16" from the back of it for clearance. The four notches are for access to the license plate light screws.
Getting started with the first coat of adhesive.
Here's the first coat sanded down and ready for the final coat.
Sanded the flanges on the rear bumper and quarter in preparation of bonding them together.
Look Ma, no seam A little more sanding and filling and she'll be ready for primer.
Here's one side all made up with some initial filling done.
First coat of finishing material.
Driver's side with seam filled and C6 splash guard molded in. Just about ready for primer.
Shot a quick coat of primer on the frenched license area to see how things were looking. So far, so good
Got the basecoat/clearcoat applied and did a little color sanding and buffing. Here's a couple of quick shots with it back on the car.
more later...
