Question DIY Painting my Civic Hatch

Car 2000 Civic Hatchback
Job a color change from Roma Red to Nighthawk Black Pearl or Championchip White. Or color suggestions? But not keeping original color!

I have some of the basic tools, well just a spray gun with one can, compressor, and of course i know i need to sand and prime the outside along with removing all the lights and moldings. My Questions I have are as follows.

No Dents or bodywork needs to be fixed so I am skipping that step.

1. Primer what kind?
2. Sand paper, what grits?
3. How many quarts of paint should i get to do the whole hatchback?
4. Clear coat, What kind and, how much?
5. I know i can arrange a dirt free enviorment, but what else tips or supplies should i know or go get?

I have basic paint knowledge, but have never done a car before.

Or anyone paint it for me give me a quote i dont have much to spend. Ill remove anything i need to. lights etc. NEWPORT NEWS AREA LOCATION??? Looking on quotes for if you were to spray it paint and clear. No door jams, engine bay or trunk edges. Just a "What you can see paint job"

Thanks
D

first paint job....get a single stage paint, also talk to the guy where ur buying the paint he will know how much, i bought my paint at a napa paint shop, and also talk to them about the temps you will be painting at. i used a 180 grit and 320 grit paper. i can tell you everything i bought tonight just shoot me a pm i think i spent 200 bucks in paint material(me having a gun and compessor and DA sander). painting primer is easy, it comes to painting the second and third coat is the hardest because you have to watch for the wetness of the paint

here is a pic of the crx i painted. i can send you more if you want.

Open to colors, but with in reason, not trying to do say the blues like si blue, or battleship colors, mugen golds.

what kind of gun are you using? Im using a devilbiss plus. lays down clear and base smooooth. Also you will need a separate cheap gun for primer. i have a shitty manards gun for primer. i shot base with it for giggles and it came out like ass haha

good work all boils down to how good the car was prepped.

ive seen a few guys paint a car, and its all in the prep work, sanding in between coats is a big part of a smooth paint job, dont get lazy and just spray. sanding inbetween coats plays a big part
