Default Best way to ship a head?

I was wondering what you guys thought the best way to ship a head would be. I was told a rubbermaid container would be alright but I was a bit weary of this suggestion. It's a b16 head with intake manifold and I will be shipping UPS. Thanks for the help

Andy

Cheapest way would be to seperate it from the body. but that could get messy.

This is true as you may be forced to ship the entire body freight, which can be costly.... If you do seperate the head you may want to keep it on ice so that it won't begin to decay.

Seriously....When I shipped a H23 head out I fabricated a wooden box with foam inside. Shipping was like 20 or 30 dollars.

wooden box is safest. padded head in rubbermaid has also been time proven safe. to be honest, your best bet is just to make sure its padded enough and you should be fine.

So UPS won't give me a hard time using the rubbermaid container? Thanks for the replies

Who'd you ship through? I expected cost to be about twice that.

it is a lot. its the wieght. 20 or 30 is really cheap. and yes. rubbermaids get used everyday. engine parts used to arrive at abacus all the time just make sure you use enough duct tape.

I might be incorrent with the shipping price. I shipped it about 2 1/2 years ago, although I'm sure prices have gone up since then. I shipped mine via UPS with insurance of course.

I paid $65ish with FEDEX, I just filled a cardboard box with peanuts and threw everything inside, exhaust mani, intake mani, ECU, valve cover, studs, gasket, etc. I didn't get any complaints...
