All Care!

Just another way for the MAN to fleece the taxpaying citizens

Taken from WTKR: (Hampton Roads, VA, October 9th, 2003, 7:31 a.m.)
The price of speeding will soon double along some stretched of I-64 in Hampton Roads. One of the areas that will be targeted will likely be along the stretch of highway between Hampton and Chesapeake.

VDOT is calling the areas that will be watched closely, Safety Zones. Last year there were nearly 80,000 car crashes on Virginia's Interstates which resulted in more than 900 deaths. Starting next year, VDOT will begin targeting certain stretches of highway that are considered to be the most dangerous in the state. Some of these areas will include portions of I-64.

This means that your commute could soon include a safety corridor where speeding fines could double but will not exceed $500 dollars. Governor Warner has approved these new safety corridors and they will go into effect next year statewide. VDOT is working with State Police to define where the safety corridors will be located.

There is likely to be at least one Safety Zone between Hampton and Chesapeake, which is now designated as a crash prone zone. Police say one goal is to cut down on the number of fatal crashes. The first of the safety corridors will be designated next year and primary state highways will begin getting the corridors in 2005.
