Default 2001 WRX Wagon opinions?

First of all, the car is for my wife and she has to have an auto. So, no 5-speed options or swaps. Second, it's the "family" car, so it has to be a wagon, no sedan. Now, I'd just like some opinions since I've never read anything about the auto WRX's. Is it worth throwing the basic upgrades at it for a few extra HP? (i.e. intake, downpipe and catback)

most definatly.

there are alot of 12 second auto wrx's out there...and actually the automatic tranny is a brand new design and has a very advnaced torque transfer system.

just putting a full turboback exhaust on it will net you low 14's. and with a intake shell probably hate the fact that you hear it spool like a jumbo jet.

the brand new ones aer ok, don't go 2002

If you are capable of 12's in an auto wagon (difficult) the tranny will most likely blow

Good choice though

So your wife doesn't mind if the WRX has mods to it?

Not at all, I just can't go crazy with it. Just basic upgrades are all she'll "allow". All I really want to put on it is a full exhaust and an intake. Otherwise, the rest of it's staying stock... unless a full exhaust sacrifices too much reliability, then I'll just go with a catback and downpipe.
What mods can be run on the stock ECU?

I like the way the wagon looks, I think it's much more aggressive than the sedan, and styled better..

Buy a stage 1 from TXS, you'll be straight with that, includes exhaust components and retuned. Net you about 30whp I think
