1996 3000gt build suggestions?
Its the N/A SL version. The body is rough (eggshell cracks along bumpers) and im sure the mask that i hate is holding my bumper together. Also the taillight mold has a hole in it. The previous owner's daughter messed it up. Im pretty much up for anything but for now the esaiest thing is fixing the P0355 (crankshaft position sensor) the hole and fresh paint. I've been looking for viable swaps but the 3si forum only has tunes for the twin turbo vr4 version, and thoose are found on ebay for 3k and look pretty sketch.

Do minimal essential repairs as you learn about the car.
SAVE for an actual VR4. You will have a basic knowledge of how most the car is put together by the time you have the money saved. Doing a swap on rough condition car is a pointless waste of money. |

Re: 1996 3000gt build suggestions?
the car isn't old enough for a full-on restore to be worth the time/money/effort.
as somebody who has dumped a lot of money into questionable examples of cars that have a more desirable version (2 beat to hell 944s), my suggestion is to fix the stuff that makes it unreliable and enjoy it for what it is while saving for a better example of the version you really want. |

Re: 1996 3000gt build suggestions?
Swapping a higher model car's engine into a base model car never pays off, period. As stated, either save up for a true VR4 or switch platforms. Mitsu's are a sketchy base to build around to start with, and unless you have a true VR4 model or a true 4G base, you're already running blind.

Get the RWD subframe from a VR4, and LS swap that bitch. Just don't worry about the money, or the resale value. Or the fabrication involved.

i see, i realize that this car is a dead end for a swap. Damn, should've gotten a civic!

Just sell it or start offering it up as a trade, someone just like yourself is bound to bite lol. Then next time you`ll look into your building options for a vehicle before you jump on it. And steer clear of the Honda life....you don`t want to be part of that. |

So much good advice and people not giving dude a giant load of shit. I had to look twice to make sure I was still on Driven.

Worthless car is worthless unless you have a lot of fab skills and don't care about throwing money at no return.
Give us ideas of what you indeed for the car to be. Dependable DD, fix the small stuff, keep it stock. Maybe upgrade suspension to make it fun to drive and learn a few things. Then sell it for something better. |

I don't know other people's reasoning but people usually get special treatment because I have a soft spot for 90's Japanese GT cars. If this dude had a civic I would have negged him with some very unsavory content by now.
A rarity these days. |
