1993 E36 need some opinions

I have a 1993 bmw 325i with a full dealer maintenance report, has been serviced at dealerships since it was purchased through 3 owners before me and its very well cared for. However, it does have 215,000 miles on it. It already has a short ram intake and catback exhaust but i was interested in adding a Turner Motorsport tuning chip to the ECU and was wondering if anyone had any pros/cons due to the high mileage. Bear in mind it has been extremely well taken care of...any thoughts?

mileage shouldn't be an issue, especially if you have maintenance records and/or can attest to the maintenance yourself.

if you're still concerned about it, run a compression test on each cylinder. if there are no other obvious deficiencies, bmw at least made the motors to last a while... if only they had done that for the rest of the car.

i would temper your expectations a bit for the chip... i wouldn't get too involved with modifying this car. if you're that interested in going fast, try to find an m3, else prepare yourself to basically convert your car to all-m3 parts. they've dipped into the "extremely affordable" class now and you could pick one up for 5 grand or less... being already familiar with e36's and the common flaws they have you'd be an ideal candidate.

anyway, that's just a suggestion. i'm sure your car can handle the chip.

the chip is really the only upgrade i was planning for the improved throttle response, HP and torque gains for my enjoyment. I plan on driving the stock motor until it dies and then rebuilding it into a mock S50 when it does but until then it is well maintained and babied 9 days out of 10.

The Turner motorsports chips are conservative enough that you don't have to worry about the engine going boom unless it was already on it's way out anyway.
