Default 1.8T or VR-6

I'm not a big fan of VWs but a lot of people got the Golf's on here, mostly GTIs. So I was wondering which is better, the 1.8T motor or the VR6, and I am talking brand new engines here, not the older lower-output versions. This new R-32 has a medium sized V6 with a VR6 that puts out a decent amount of power for it's size, but the 1.8T can be tuned better.

What's better? All aspects

yeah a 1.8 can be easier to tune and be alot of fun, but if you have the $$$$ you can turbo a VR6 and have the same out come if not more, it just depends on what you prefer. vw also has a 24v VR6 so its not only the R32 or 1.8t. if i was to choose i would have to say a 24v VR6 but thats my opinion

Depends on what you're willing to spend.. Obviously the VR6 motor in the end would be the best choice for some killer setup, It's a 6cyl vs 4cyl.

But a 1.8T is far cheaper to make fast since it's already turboed. Thats $3k saved right there (turbo kit)..

Remember there are 2 versions of VR6 motors though, a 12v and a .. shit. 24v? I forget.

I personally find a 6cyl Turbo motor the sexiest/best combination of everything.. But I'll bet thats a bitch to drive in a FWD car

There are a few guys on here with VR6 turbos, and lots with GTI's

That's all going to be irrelevant soon... 1.8T becomes 2.0T, and the 2.8L becomes the 3.2L.

The r32 is a 3.2L, it's a blast to drive and ride in....I own both a 12v vr6 and a 20v 1.8t....both fun in different ways, and of course the 1.8t is much easier to upgrade for the $$$. I have to stick with my vr6 though, it just seems to be a much smoother constant pull instead of the 1.8t. Both engines are underpowered considering what is now avaliable, but I still get satisfaction from driving them...and they do have alot more to offer interior wise over other newer/ faster cars out there.

1.8t if your planning to mode and race it, vr6 if your planning to just use it as a daily driver. vr6 with the z engineering supercharger puts out close to 300whp though, and no turbo lag. just a thought :P!

maybe no turbo lag but boost builds slow as hell, full boost isnt until 6800 rpms on z'd vr6. but to the original poster: stay the hell away from the vr6-it's a deep pit you dont want to dive into. sigh.......
