One or two landscaping places around there sell crushed shells in bulk, I don't remember where but I remember that from when I lived in the 757.

You are not planning to use 200 pounds of crushed shell in a salt water aquarium are you? Recipe for disaster.
If that is what you are doing, use at most about 25% crushed coral to 75% live sand. |

hahaha no, i'm not planning on using all that in my tank. This isnt going to be my substrate either. That would be just ridculious. lol, i'm trying out this DIY Live Rock.
I am probably going to be moving next June or so in to a temporary place for about a year. So I am not going to put my tank up there, but I am going to take my current take and substrate place it in a garage with a heater and power heads, and buy Tufa rock for about 2 bucks a pound. Let it cure for about 8 or 9 months and I will have like 300 pounds of live rock for 400 bucks. I looked in to making my own rocks, but just found that it would be too difficult. You have to use very specific kinds of cement that do not contain hard metals and such. When I was researching I found it was not a big savings once time and everything was considered. Although you can make very cool looking stuff if you do it yourself. |

The research and things that i've read so far has "Portland Cement Type I/II" ($8.97 @ Home Depot/94lb bag) as the ideal, tank-safe cement. I actually spoken to a guy that has done this and has been quite successful for the past 2+ years. I mean, after all the coraline gets growing, its seriously almost hard to pick out the man made rocks. I have a few pictures that he sent me. I just gotta find it somewhere on my hard drive.
