I was wondering what does the shipyard start out pay wise. I need a better paying job than what i have now. I dont wanna go into the military bc i have a baby on the way and i wanna be there for it as much as possible to help my fiancee raise and take care of it. I was also wondering what do i have to do to do electrical work. I really dont wanna do welding or pipe fitting i have heard bad things about them.
Anybody with any info that they can provide is much appreciated

Several of the shipyards are hurting for work man. I work at Tecnico, and we might be laying off some people here shortly. However places like BAE, while in there program, will start you at 12.70$ and hour (min). Your not going to make 50$ an hour, not even close, but obviously, the more experience you have the better hourly pay you will recieve. I'm personaly making 15$ and hour, and have been workin there for 4 years, but i started at the bottom. As far as electrical work goes, I can't help you out.

What are you trying to do there?

I have a couple friends at odu that intern at the shipyard and they get like 17-18 an hour. They have been there for some 2 years though.
