Default New to the forum, Lookin for some shops for my 97 Z28

Hey guys, just found this site(courtesy of catfSSh) and was wondering if any of you could help me out.

I was in the Army for a while, and got back about 2 years ago.. I pretty much have NO idea where to go to get my car worked on now.

The car is a 97 Camaro Z28 Convertible and I am in Chesapeake.

I am looking for a couple specific things:

1. a good machineshop for an upcoming build. Someone that stands behind thier work. Basically block prep and whatnot, nothing crazy..
(prospective build is a 383 with an LE2 setup and thats about it.)

2. a paint place that will let me do the prep work, and they spray. Quality spray. I know this can be hard to find sometimes, but would love to save some money by doing the prep myself.

3. need my convertible top replaced. The only place local that I could find that could provide me a quote, said that I need to provide them 2 tops in case they damage one installing it(WTF???) .. need a reputable shop that can handle the convertible top install.

The goal for the car is the engine rebuild this fall(383, Lloyd Elliot LE2 Heads/Cam package, typical bolt-ons, 150 wet shot). New top right after the new paintjob, somewhere after the engine build. I will be doing as much of the work myself to save cash, but I know there are some things best payed for.

Thanks guys, and sorry for the long post... I just have not been able to find anything worthwile thusfar.

Welcome to the boards.

I know a good machine shop in Sedley that did all my block work and another one in Smithfield I used for head work, don't know many around this area.

3rd gen convertibles > 4th gen convertible.

Welcome. The Richmond F-bodies are pretty sick, but someone in the 757 built Whistler's monster set-up, so maybe he'll have $0.02 to put in.

glad to see your gettin the le2 and not the lt4 kit.
that car will be a monster when done.

as for paint theres a new paint shop called Stock Or Modified, give them a call and see if they are what you want.
at the top of the 757 forum theres a huge shop list that might have what your lookin for.

Hmm, does the Whistler you are talking about have a really clean targa-top conversion? If so, then I think I know who you are talking about.

Yea, the LT4 kit is pretty over-rated. Pricewise, the LE2 is a much better choice for me also. My goal is ~400 at the rear..

I went through the shop sticky at the top, I will probably end up just going down the list calling them to see what they can help me with.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, I pretty much just needed to get pointed in the right direction.
