Default Lookin for a good shop to do a decent ammount of work.

The car isn't a very "prestigous car" the car mean ALOT to my mom and she is intending on keeping this thing forever. No joking about the car, all I want is some information. The car was once stolen and had both head gaskets blown, everything was replaced but the car has ran like ass ever since. there's only 150k miles on the chassis its self.

It's a 1991 Grand Prix with a 3.1L automatic.

Looking to have a brand new motor put in and have a cam installed. Any good performance shops that are good with 3.1's?
Wants to put a new transmission in. Reputable tranny shop?
Wants a brand new suspension. Who does good suspension work?
Looking to have a new, quality paint job done. Black nothing fancy, maybe some painted red pinstripes. Any good ones? nothing outrageous but nothing cheap.
And maybe some new audio equipment, alarm, remote start that type of thing. Whose good?

She threw up some crazy thing about maybe being able to put a V8 into it, but the time/money involed would be worth it. I'm trying to convince her to stick a vortech blower in there, cause set ups exist for this car. So the shop would have to be able to handle a vortech blower install.

I don't want an snickering about the car, just give me some good information please...

Thanks.

First off if you are serious you might want to swap a 3.8 motor cause then you will have a lot more resources for your parts. http://3800performance.com/is a good place to start to get your parts from. Also their is other people making stuff like Doctorspeed.com and Mantaparts.com (not sure on the exact web addresses but google can fix that). As far as installation any V8 performance shop could do the work because it is still a V-series engine and the basics are the same. Anyways good luck!

P.S. There is someone on this board from North Carolina who has a newer Monte Carlo that has nitrous and some engine work done. Hopefully he'll see this post!

are you fucking serious?

have you ever even seen a "V" series engine?

try putting parts from a ford "V"8 on a GM "V"6 and see where that gets you.

people liek you give those of us that know what the fuck we're doing a bad name.

please go shoot your self in the face with a howitzer.

You know what you're doing but yet you don't offer any sort of suggestion?

Anyways, the 3.1 is a GM 60* motor. GM also makes several other 60* motors that are more potent than that little 3.1.
Heres a quick run down;

3.4L Pushrod (Camaros)
3.4 TDC (Twin Dual Cam) (Beretta's ?)
3800 NA (L32, L36)
3800 Supercharged (L67)
4.9L V8 PFI (Cadillac's)
4.9L Northstars (Again, Cadillacs)

Any of these engines will bolt up to that trans but the question of whether or not it will handle it arises. For instance, the N* is a 300hp motor and the SC3800 Puts out 280 ft/lbs. It all depends on how much you want to open your wallet. The cheapest bang for your buck would have to be the 3.4L pushrod. A used motor can cost ya between $400-$500, on top of perhaps (at least) $1000 or so of other parts. You're 3.1 is based off the 2.8L that came in camaros and firebirds. This motor is often reffered to as a 'boat anchor'. Any of these other swaps and you start going into at least $3k worth of parts alone. In all honesty, convince your mom to step up to a newer grand prix, perhaps a GTP. They're excellent cars with a little pep and they came factory with supercharged motors. Good luck,

Nah, no swaps. THis isn't a car thats going to be a track burner or anything. It's just an important car to her so we're doing some shits and giggles type things to it.

I'm staying in the "bolt ons" area of parts. I found out the s/c stuff is no longer available for the GP so unless we happen to find a TGP to swap the turbo system over, it'll just get an intake and exhaust and call it a day.

But reguardless, whose good for putting in motors and trannies around here?

And whose good for good paint?

And whose good for good audio?

.

What kinda audio?

Me and my friend josh can put the motor in.....i'll give you a price later. We can have it done in fairly quick turn around time. Also, Audio shouldn't be a problem and STOCK OR MODIFIED body works for the paint.

Haha, if you want to supply the nitrous system and the nitrous, we'll nuke the old motor.
