Post How to: All abbrevations for newbies

Instead of interupting threads, come here for a reference when you do not know an abbreviation.

Abbreviations can be a very confusing thing for newbies, so hopefully this will help. Here we go:


AFAIK - As Far As I Know

AID - Account Identification

AIM - AOL Instant Messenger

AKA - Also Known As

A-Pillar - Framework on either side of front windshield

ASAP - As Soon As Possible

Attention Whore - Someone who thrives on the attention of others.

ATM - At The Moment

AWD - All Wheel Drive

Bling Bling - Expensive car owned by someone with too much money & nothing but shiny (bling) gold chains/rings and shiny (bling)chrome wheels to spend it on.

B-Pillar - Framework between front & back doors

BPV - By-Pass Valve

BOV - Blow-Off Valve

BT - Brain Trust

BTDT - Been There Done That

BTW - By The Way

Bump - When someone wants to put the thread at the top, so there is more of a chance to get viewed. This was possibly the most confussing one for me as a newbie.

BWW - 1. Band Width Warning (large file or picture) 2. Big Work Warning - usually only seen in the "off topic" forum(posting graphic pornography)

C - Convenience Package

CAI - Cold Air Intake

Cams - Camshafts

Cat - Catalytic Converter

CE - Check Engine

CEL - Check Engine Light

CPO - Certified Pre-owned

CF - Carbon Fiber

Chip - ECU Computer Chip

Chipped - ECU Performance Chip Installed

CHP - California Highway Patrol

Clay Bar - also known as Overspray Clay, Clay Bar is a plasticine matrix with an abrasive intermixed throughout. It is used to remove spots of paint overspray on the surface of your cars paint/clear coat. Most recently Clay Bar has been used as a detailng tool for removing foreign particles & contaminants from your car's paint/clearcoat. Must be used with a water based lubricant to avoid damaging paint/clearcoat(usually comes with the Clay Bar).

C-Pillar - Framework on either side of rear window

CP - Coil Pack

DBW - Drive By Wire (also known as Electronic Throttle Control)

DC - District of Columbia This is what almost everyone from VA/DC/MD refer from where their from, when describing to someone from another state their general living area because its easier and "cooler" to say I am from "DC".

DD - 1. Drunk Driver 2. Daily Driver 3. Dunkin Donuts

Debaged - to remove some, if not all, of the following badges from the rear of the car.

F&F - Movie - "The Fast & The Furious" - Some people may refere to this, although most of us on this forum don't care. But this is just in case.

FIA - Federation Internationale De L'Automobile - Governing Body for both non-sporting automobile activities & international motorsport competition

JDM - Japanese Domestic Market

Jerks - Forum user who uses humor in the form of a sarcastic reply to make fun of anothers forum post. A "jerks" posts are never to be taken personally.

MD - Maryland we have many of them here for some reason, even if the site is called Drag "VA". But please refer to www.dcspeed.net for MD and DC. Usually you will see the exact same events and important information as posted here in DragVA.

Meow - Slang for "repost"

MSRP - Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

Mod(s) 1 - Modification(s) (Performance, Interior, Exterior)

Mod(s) 2 - Moderators of the forums. The evil, horrible people that believe they know everything . Usually these people you don't want to upset . . .


MOAR - Mother of All Reposts

MWW - Mild Work Warning - this will still get you in trouble with the boss - Refere to NWS.

Tramlining - Tramlining is a condition which occurs when an extremely wide, low profile tire with a lot of surface traction & contact patch causes an unpleasant response through the steering wheel. When tramlining occurs, the tire wants to follow the grooves and crowns of the road. The wider the profile of the tire, the more it wants to "drive itself". You will notice this in the steering wheel over uneven road surfaces. Proper tire inflation can help dramatically reduce this problem.
