Has anyone here done this before or know a good write up? I'm trying to find out exactly everything I need to do it and I'm having searching difficulties
I've found a couple possible 350's but was worried about the tranny, I was told I can use my same tranny but need a bell housing converter :dunno: Thanks in advance.
easy
350, use the turbo350 transsmission
downeyoffroad.com makes adapter plates for the tranny to 4cylnder tcase, motor mounts, radiator, and pretty much everything you need.
~use shorty block hugger headers if carbuerated, if not i would use the downey headers becuase of the clearance on the knocksensor
anymore questions just ask. i just got finished with the 305 TBI swap in my 1990 4runner.

ya.. go with what brandon said... use the turbo 350... the toyota trannys are strong.. but not worth it... you will tear them up from what i hear.
painless makes a wire harness to plug right up.

brandon's (ecr) truck is pretty nasty... it sounds good as shit...... im sure he would be happy to show it off to you..
you also will need your front and rear drive shafts modified... (lengthened/shortened, flanges changed)
i kinda wish i would have gone with the 350 but oh well. My truck is about 98% finished. Im hoping in about 2 weeks it will be one the road. but yeah your welcome to come look at it.

so if you use a 350 and 5speed tranny would you have to move the transfer case? which way would be the cheapest way to put a 350 in there? im looking for an 85 4x4 to put my 91 2wd bed and cab on and put a 350 in it but im not trying to spend 2k to do it. im just gonna drive it through the mud but its gotta be kinda tuff. let me know what you think.

downey off road makes an bellshousing adapter for the 5speed toyota tranny to bolt up to the 350. Im not s but i think by using this adapter it makes the tcase sit back around 1.5-2 inches farther back. I would use the TH350 tranny personally.

yeah the bellhousing adaptor is like 500 bucks. what would i have to get to use the TH350 tranny? im gonna tear the hell out this truck so i need it to hold up i hear that using the 22r tranny woudln't be good. also is there any clearance problems with the distributor on the chevy engines?

I dont know if you already have the engine but a small ford is an easier swapyou do have to run a remote oil filter 40.00 @summit the distributor is tight but if you have a body lift it doesn't matter either way

This is true. Most sbc motors you will need to beat in the firewall a good bit.

Why not?? That's a sweet truck. Had a friend of a friend who put a 327 in one a few years back. Some of you might remember him. Had the plates LGL NVA (legal in VA) on the truck. I believe it had 38s or 40s. He had two frames welded together to give him the extra lift and still make it legal!

WHY IN GODS GREEN EARTH WOULD ONE EVER PUT DOMESTIC IN IMPORTS!!! Well I know why, but seriously!!!
2jzgtte!!! you can get 700+ and the reliablity and the respect of having toyota throughout!
cheap? 7MGTE swap it, 350+hp
I had a 85 yota runner, it was a beast with just the 22re. 9" of total lift 7" suspension (old emu) and 2" of body, ran on 33's and got a 27 mpg on the highway, 22 in the city. Never got stuck, even in front of and behind jack up chevy's
make sure you have the w56 tranny

sweet truck? It's not practical for anything but a street queen. The first pebble he props up on he will flop over.
