I know Soul D had recommended this eariler to get rid of alot of idiots. I was wondering if the mods were serious because I know myself and a few others are getting sick of these new morons. For instance, just take a look in general discussion....there are like 4 closed threads from newer people who are oblivious. Are the mods going to begin getting stricter or anything to that effect? (i hope no mod feels like i am criticizing them....im not.)

yeah these noobs are getting out of hand. they all of a sudden start making threads, calling people out and syaing stupid shit. Its a waste of space. we need to do something to regulate the people who come on dragva.

maybe a probationary period where their first x number of posts is monitored and if they screw up they get banned?

we'll probably implement something.

these people are probably the same ones that get us kicked out of everywhere. if only we could do something about that too.

honda-tech has a pretty good system with the whole trial user thing...and they should only be allowed in certain forums etc.

Speaking of IP ban I was trying to post at my g/f's house the other day and her IP was banned from drag. Well I could view/browse all the forums, but I couldn't post because her IP was banned.

I wonder what that shit was about. Oh well I'm for this trial user stage because I hate the idiots that have ruined this board.

yeah i agree, that setup seems to work fairly nice. Also they use a reputation system as well I believe.

anyways, just curious if new registration is disabled for a while, or if its just a temporary thing while the mods/admins sort out a new system. I know someone who tried to register today and it wouldn't let him. Just curious how long that will last

jesus christ its getting worse. there are like 4 simaltaneous "where to get my car painted" threads.

Just curious how long that will last We already have something like that now to a limited degree, try signing off and seeing what forums are available. As for reputation, vB3 does have that and I have asked sung about enabling it, but he said not to. I'm not entirely sure it would work anyway. Who knows, maybe we'll turn it on and see what happens, then again maybe not :p

As for the registrations being disabled I can't give a time, only that it will hopefully be sooner rather than later.

Wow, that was nice and vague :o

I use vb3. I wanna see it...turn it on. :D Reputations isn't a feature specific to the vB3 style, but rather of vB3 itself.

10 to 1 that it's just an oopsie on our (read: my) part. There is a list of banned IP addresses, and every once in a while, someone's IP by chance happens to change to one that's on the ban list. I try to clear the list on occassion, but yeah. My bad.

And new registrations are off for the time being. It'll get turned back on once I have things set up more concretely with an AOL TOS rep to deal with trolls (hence the newest user).

As for user reputations... uh. I'll let Eng deal with that because I know exactly nil about it. :dunno:

Oh I see. It's no big deal. I hardly ever use her computer when I'm over there anyways because she has 56K, so it didn't bother me.

id like to thank the staff for trying to figure something out... i know the OG's oppreciate it. i get on drag thinking i havent seen a level of stupidity ever achieved, but there are such marvels as 89Integra, boosted2003 etc etc to up that bar.

I agree. Drag needs a trial period. and restricted forums.

on one of the other forums i frequent (not sure which one... i think it's a 300z board) there's a rule where you can't post in the for sale section until you have proven yourself as a worthwhile member of the community. The mod/admin then gives you permission.

this might be an idea for us... i know it would be a lot of work, but the majority of the idots come from the for sale/wanted section, so perhaps putting restrictions might deter them because they won't want to be bother proving themselves?

lets all hope the new rules inacted by SoulD will work. seems to be a good idea to weed out the morons

Guess I should look for them.

And I also think rep should be turned on. It's fun.

gotcha. that karma shit was pretty interesting too, although doing that on Drag will kill at least half of the members :)

And it's already been proven that we can't trust drag to make their own decisions when it comes to group opinion (i.e. the disaster known as "voting for ride of the month").

Can you set up a n00b forum where noobs can only post in the noob forum for their 1st month on dragVA? sr20forum has implemented something similar and it keeps alot of the turds off the forum. People don't like the idea of being contained on the forum and they leave.

If something similar has been recommended I apologize, I only read the first few and last few posts.

a lot of the problem is laziness. People not doing research and not browsing through the site. I probably might annoy some people occasionaly since Ill see if they need something from a post a lil while back. But people are listing NTB honda lips, right next to FS honda lips. its ridiculous and Ill try to tell them a few people that are selling such items so that way they stop bumping there stuff and legite threads with stuff I might buy or maybe sell to can appear within the last 10 pages or so. Ive been on drag for a few years continously so if any kind of bans are made please dont have some of the decent members be punished for the actions of the many ignorant newones. thanks

Regarding a reputation system:

This was tried for a bit on nsxprime and they abandoned it for whatever reason. The only problems I could see with it were people getting bad rep points and then lashing out at the people woth good rep points for no reason. It kind of skewed the whole system. But that's a completely different crowd over there and any problems they have are about 1% what you guys have to deal with here.

I don't know much about how it works but I know it has the potential to backfire.

I don't know much about how it works but I know it has the potential to backfire. In that case instead of being a 99.9% chance of not working it would move up to 100% :p

I personally don't like the moderate new user queue (basically beacause people can't read so I get a pile of emails/PMs everyday asking why can't they post yet) but if it's going to cut down on the spam, idiots, etc I can't complain too much :)
