i just put together one of those motors! i used a 92 civic cx 1.5 bottom end and put a 98 1.6 vtec head and intake on it. i used a 97 ex tranny also for the better gearing. the car is much faster! the cx 1.5 lower end has flat top pistons, while the 1.6 vtec engines have dished pistons with a 9.6 cr
i figure the flat tops would yeild a 10-10.2 cr???????
it took me a little bit of playing with the timing to get it to stop pinging. runs real good now!

you might through a rod bearing or rod through the block
very weak rods
I think cr is higher though
are you running an automatic or 5spd? I've found on several sites the fact that the auto cannot sustain more than 10-20 hp over stock. It will last about 2 months with the 50+ hp, or about 6 mos with some internal parts upgrades and cooling. Also, mini-meturbodx is right. It does have some very weak rods.
