For the fast cars around blacksburg

So how many of you run 13's or better in the 1/4mi? I often see some heavily modified VR4's, Z32's, 240sx's, mustangs, and DSM's around town, but have never had the opportunity of racing/talking with them.

Chris (2nd gen DSM w/ 16G turbo) and I ran into each other at Kroger today and did a 2nd/3rd gear pull on the way home. As expected we stayed even to the top of 3rd gear, where we shut down due to avoid a ticket.

Good run Chris...definitely a quick car. I'd like to see what would happen from a launch or from 20 to 100+.

" You do know you can get a ticket for just accelerating quickly in a "contest of speed" with another car right :p I'll probably get bashed for this until i prove it, but I would run a 13.9 or so on a level track.

Yea, true. Luckily Ive never gotten a ticket, nor do I usually race where cops are likely to be. Me and Jeff raced on Patrick henry on the straight away, and shut down right before the next light, so it'd be unlikely that a cop would have seen us between those two lights, and we didnt launch off of the line, as we had to pass the BT bus and be way out of it's way before we gunned it.

Good race man, just like I said we were VERY neck and neck, starting at about a 30mph roll or so, and then getting them up to about 85. Nice car man, sounds sweet as can be.

RGuy - I think I'd get a 13.9 on a sea level track as well...seriously. I ran a 14.0 @ 101 at bristol with the 240sx a few months ago.

Hm...maybe I'm thinking of a different CRX, but I raced one that had a fruity body kit, dark racing stripes (it was night coulda been black or dark blue), big wing, and huge rims, and it was an 11 second 1/8th mile car if that.

HAHAHAH I hate that car, no offense if any of you feel differently, but I SERIOUSLY hate body kits, especially if they make the car look that bad. That car to me looks like ass, and I feel he literally threw a TON of money right out the window. I think I gave him the thumbs down one day when he drove past me, I know he saw it. Back to the original topic,

My car is red, and looks stock mainly. The only ques on the outside are 35% tint, Konig Villan wheels, a Thermal exhaust tip poking out (muffler is completely black, so all you can see really is the tip), and my center tail section is clear (did this to seperate myself from another friend back home who had a 1995 GSX in red as well). Ill get some pics up here for you guys, I have some new ones taken.

I dont approve of street racing, but sometimes if the conditions are right I will do a quick sprint, usually just up to whatever the speed limit is ie: 0-60mph just for fun.

But like they said if you are in town I definately would like to check out your 7, is it an FD? To tell you the truth I have been dieing to get a quick ride in one. Long story short I have tried many times to get a ride and literally everytime something comes up where I cant. I just wanna see how different of a feel the car has. Let me know man.

My FD is modded way beyond the use of that pile of shit Vacuum hose contraption you mentioned. I live in Newport News.down near Ft Eustis....not sure exactly how far of a drive it is to the blackburg area:confused:. As far as my Mods...i'd rather keep those to myself for now.. If you ever meet me in person....i'll show them off. But i'm not broadcasting to the world what is under my hood. I will say it has about every basic FD bolt on that there is....plus a lot of custom parts :D

I have a 2nd gen rx7 with a race ported motor a t 78 turbo a 50 shot. I run 11.22 and have time slips, pictures and videos to prove it. So stop running your mouths and tell me were to meet you.

It's a pain to drive everyday cause it's a little bit on the fast side. I run 800/600 lb springs which almost require wearing a back brace or kidney support, the rollcage takes up a little seat travel. It's blaringly loud. :crazy: It gets shitty gas milage. The clutch is a work-out just to press in. EVERY GOD DAMNED BODY FEELS COMPELLED TO TRY TO RACE ME......even if they are in a shit box car . The cops follow me constantly, waiting for me to do something stupid. Hmmm..what else?...NO power steering, no air conditioning, no heater, practically no radio cause you can't hear it at anything above 2K rpms....It smokes alittle between shifts because i have to run pre-mix 2 cycle oil in the gas tank. :smoke: This car is ran at VIR and Summit Point on the road course as much as my wallet will allow, So the car is phenomenal on the track....not user freindly on the street.

I'm new to the board today, my name is Nick. Spinning my tires in most of first and w/o my headers I ran a 14.59; as in my signature. That was on a slippery track on a 60 degree 85% humidity day. I'd say it realistically runs low 14's, and when I finish up the supercharger around February/March I'll be in the low 13's (of course that's after I install a Phantom Grip LSD ;)) I have 90% of my parts together now, and it's just time to start putting it all together, except I have to go home to NY for xmas break, so like I said, a few months and I'll be boosting on stock internals, at around 5 psi, should be good for about 280-300 at the crank. With all this 20 degree weather tho, this thing is mad fast! Traction in 2nd is a big problem in these temps.

probe - very nice. It's not very often that you come across a fast ford probe. I'm not making fun of the car, just saying that they are supposedly difficult to make power with, due to the "flapper-door" style MAF.

I'm gonna call BS on that! Unless it's a first gen Mx6..the old kind, I know a guy in Fla. with one that has 490 at the wheels..FE3, but no 2nd gens.

I had mine turbo'd this year, but I sold the kit and changed engines.

The MAF flapper door you speak of is from first gens, we have a VAF, and it's limiting, but not much. I have a friend who dyno'd his probe at 300 to the wheels, stock engine, T04E running 7 psi. Mine has 10:1 C/R so I'll keep the boost low and make more than enough power to keep me happy; it's a daily driver anyway.

I'd be more than happy to meet up with anyone..just name a place/time.

Nick (My Probe is faster) has the engine swap (KLZE) w/ all the goodies and is building a supercharger kit right now.

I had the ZE swap for about a month, but am now back to the OEM KL03 engine with a few goodies and a nice nitrous set-up.

Rundown:

~Back in the day OEM vs. OEM = me win
~Nick boosted vs. me OEM= Nick killed me :p
~Nick KLZE vs. me OEM= Nick by a few cars
~Nick KLZE vs. me 55 shot= guessing me
~Nick SC ZE vs. me 75(or more) shot= ??? who knows.....


Nicks car is faster most of the time...but we are battling it out for fastest PGT in town. Its going to be a toss up here in a few months.

Well here is a quick run down:

Stock Probe motor:
~KL-03 rated @ 164hp 9:6:1 compression


J-Spec Mazda MX-6 motor: (drops right into a probe, no problems)
~KL-ZE rated @ aprox 200hp 10:1 compression


Both motors are basically the same. The same block, crank, ect. Just little diff. on the top end. Wiring harness works, ECU will run the ZE (just not to full potential) But direct bolt in swap. harness, tranny, axles, ALL!

Main Differences:
~KLZE flat pistons, higher compression, square ported heads for better flow, knife-edged intake mainfold w/ square ported runners for increase flow. No EGR

~KL03 oval shaped heads and IM, Fully Functional EGR system, lower compression that takes better to boost


Pros of ZE:
~more baseline hp from factory
~higher topend flow/ power
~Joy of saying you have a "swap" of "J-spec" motor!:p

Cons of ZE:
~w/ higher compression it makes it harder to boost
~A-spec ECU WILL run the motor, but not to its fullest, so J-spec ECU must be bought.
~Along w/ the J-spec ECU, you must get the proper VAF to work with the ECU.
~know to blow from oil starvation in #6 cylinder


All in all...its an aweosme motor:D

As for the KL03....its also a good motor. LOVES BOOST, fun to drive, but just not quite the top end beast that the ZE is. (but thats NOTHING that the juice doenst take care of)

The ZE is nice because you can buy 'em for $900 and they have lower mileage (usually ~20-45k) and are a direct bolt in.

The higher C/R makes boost a little more dangerous, just have to be more careful with fueling, which is difficult on our cars, not many injector options.

The stock engine can handle 8 psi safely, the ZE, well I'm going to run 5-6 psi because I already figure I have 220 at the crank..and have enough problems with traction. I don't want to run low 12's or anything.

You asked about times, mine is listed in my signature, was with a poor 2.25 60' time.

well i havent run mine yet in the 1/4 w/ the current set up but my buddies who have similar setups/hp w/ their Z are running high 10's - so thats pretty decent for a 3400lb car.

And as most people know the Z is not a good 1/4 mile car - its a good wide open car - i'll go against anything up to close to 200mph

btw - i have 850 injectors and upgraded fuel rails plus 100shot ontop of a built engine and greddy 16g TD05 turbos - i think you'd have me for the first couple feet

according to your sig turbo hatchy, i would have to guess you probably can't do faster than a mid to low 12 on a street... on the street, wagz will own you.. unless you run slicks on the street.. even still, he would probably own you.. not trying to trash talk or anything, just stating the facts as i know it.. if you have a timeslip or such to prove otherwise, feel free to add them.. but from what i've seen, a turbo hatch will only go so far on street tires and pump gas..

ya i'm also on street tires but can run race gas up to 26psi and about 20 on pump gas - if i put drag tires on i should be able to hit mid 10's

i arrived at the mid 12s conclusion based on what i have personally seen.. i have seen a turbo b18c hatch that runs about mid 13s... several of them actually in my area, they all run about the same.. then there's altered atmosphere's drag civic.. it ran a 12.8 @ 14PSI on a huge turbo that i can't remember the specs of at the moment.. they used an AEM EMS t otune it as well (371hp i believe it was) ... you say you run 1 bar, which i am pretty sure is about 16 PSI.. so make it a little faster than the 12.8 they ran.. (12.0 on slicks).. and i come up with a guess of mid to low 12s on the street, and mid to high 11s on slicks.. altered atmosphere knows waht they are doing.. the logic makes sense to me.. if there's something i'm missing go ahead and correct me..

The reason i say i havent run mine yet is b/c i just had all the engine work done and took it from 450rwhp to 650rwhp and am still finishing up some additional mods on it (going FMIC rather than my HKS SMICs, doing border 850 injector/rail kit, and a custom widebody rear w/ 18x12 HRE 540's and 18x9 fronts) - i just got her back from 2 of the biggest car shows of the year and took 1st in both - i built her to be a balls to the wall fun car that would be a show stopper - a 650rwhp national show winner (getting ready to be a multi mag cover car) is pretty good.

I say mid to hi 10's cuz i have fellow Z freiends w/ basically the same set up that run that left and right.

btw - i didnt build my car to be a 1/4mile queen - i built her to be huge hp, fast, fun, and beautiful - the 1/4mile doesnt intereest me and i've put $50k into my Z in the past 2 years in the upgrades and re-creation (not including the cost of the Z since i bought it over 5 years ago)

I actually think that the hp to weight ratios aren't very far apart, and that they are both extremely impressive ratios. This is definitely a traction race and a driver race. My 550cc injectors are small. but they haven't leaned out yet. i run them at about 95%duty according to my apexi monitor. But my dry n2o system raises pressure quite a bit. btw, when an injector is run at 99-100% duty cycle, it stays open and gas almost just pours in. you will run very rich at 99% duty. don't listen to those crappy magazines that tell you that you want to run 75% and 80% at the most. also 555cc are good to about 400rwhp.

anyhow, i want to see both of you race! also, if your in roanoke oneday let me know. i'd like to see your car. a friend is building a hatch with a h22 turbo. no doubt the hatches are light at about 2200lbs. so lets get this race happening!

my z is still getting the new FMIC, 850kit, new better dps, and redone n2o lines finished up at the shop now - then it goes into my bodyshop guy for the widebody rear project and full paint job - keep in mind i do this to my Z for some show reasons and also for some magazine coverage, not for 1/4 mile races! lol

She should be done by mid to end of february from the body shop - those that have seen my Z in person (i think about 10 guys from this board) know i'm not talking shit - my Z is pretty fucking well done and is only getting bigger and better!

Finally - if i was to race some1 like turbo hatchy who clearly only wants to go a 1/4 mile for money - then i'd say its far to have a 0-100 or 40-150 race as well. Fair is Fair since he's the "fastest" import on the forum right.

all my new mods (fmic, new dps, new n2o lines, big brake kit, etc) should be done within the next 2 weeks if all goes as planned (meaning no problems w/ relocation of oil cooler and instalation of FMIC etc) and then she goes to my bodyshop guy for the widebody kit install, full paint job, and molding of all the sideskirt and rear valence lines.

So i dont plan to have her back till mid to end of february - but i dont drive her in the winter much anyway unless its clear and no snow/wetness on the ground.

If there are cars on this board that are truly as complete as Wagz's car is then let's hear about them. My car is no piece of shit, but it is nowhere close to the level that Wagz's is on, and I have over 20k invested in interior, exterior, engine swap, turbo upgrade, drivetrain, etc. And that doesn't include labor which I have done myself. Completeness is in the details. I’m talking about the details in all aspects, especially in the plethora of aftermarket electronics and tuning devices involved with well-tuned turbo vehicles, and also in exterior, interior, and suspension enhancements. This post isn’t defensive or snide in any manner. It’s just that if there are more vehicles that are built to the degree that his is, then please point me towards them because I love nice cars. It isn’t every day that you see cars like that. Usually the cars in magazines aren’t as heavily modified as that.(most the time they are more ghetto than you would think) -Anyway. We should also keep track of the fastest cars on this board and organize a Spring Jam or some shit. That way we all have enough time to have most vehicles done for this year so we can run, meet each other, and sort out and end some shit talking. It would be fun. Natural Bridge/Elk Creek/Dinwiddie? Whatever.

I say we have Wags and turbo hatchy take that 500 bucks and use it towards a REAL track event. You'll even save 200 bucks. Or that can be what the "winner" gets. Even though it will be set up as a school, you two can line up right behing one another and go at it as hard as you think you can handle.IMHO, this would REALLY show who has the fastest car. Anyone can shift 3-4 gears and hold the steering wheel straight. Once you try a real track event, you wont go back.

anybody can make a light car handle well. ie. Type R's. when you can drive a heavy car, and tune the suspension to where it behaves like a light car, is when you've got a good car and a good driver. this IMHO would not be the best way to show whos "Fastest" between the two.

well guys - once my baby is done (again) i'll play around = those that know me have seen me take her to 150+mph and that was when she was just over 400rwhp - now i'm going to be 650rwhp - so imagine the fun.

I built her to be the best of everything basically - show and go - too many cars that get coverage today are either 1 or the other - too much show and no go or a ton of go but not that pretty - i did a good amount of each - show me how many 650rwhp+ Z32's there are in the nation that are rolling w/ 18x12 rears, custom engine, custom interior and so on. Its becoming more popular, but i've been building my baby over the past 2 years and she's turning heads.
I'll play around w/ anyone that wants a go - 500 is not much $ to me (sorry if that sounds arrogant) but when you have 50k invested in mods and restoration alone in the Z, another 20k in the audi, and all my other toys are paid cash than 500 is just some fun money - once she's done i'll play - but to keep it far we should really do 2-3 styles of race - maybe 1/4mile, roll from 40, and roll from 75 to about 150 or so.

You all def. have the best idea. I would love to put something together during the spring for everyone one to come out in the area and just have a good time and race legally. I would rather race on the track anyway, the streets are dangerous to ourslelves and other innocent ppl. Not to mention, that my car has a lot easier time with traction with the Mickeys on it. I would like to do 1/4 mile though. 1/8 mile just isnt as fun, and us turbo car owners know we love the high trap times we get in the 1/4. Until then it would be cool if we could all meet up somewhere and chill. I will def be willing to put down alot of cash for the event. Because to me the $500 I was willing to put down on racing Wagz, was def. a gamble that I could lose the money. So everyone keep an ear open to where we might be able to host this event. I can get a lot of cars from the NOVA area to come too.. Alot of fast hondas and our All Motor Integra that went 10.35@130 (2nd fastest all motor honda in the world, last month was the fastest)

Everyone should make some suggestions about when we should all meet up and where for now, not exactly to race but just for some fun. Maybe go out and beat some domestic cars asses:beer:

you put a sr20 in the s12? thats different! i'm putting a sr20 in a friends ae86 soon. i liked the ca in those. they had eight spark plugs and you could tell people you had a inline 8 cyl. didn't some of the turbo's not have the hood scoop? it was a t3 on the 200sx right?

The "Twin Plug" blew for speed but had a lot of torq....
The CA18ET was great but never produced anymore than 290 Rwhp, The VG30E is great Im building that now( VG30E originally came in my car) As for turbo hoods It was intended to have a scoupe in all the turbo hoods but in 86 nissan got a lot of flak about how the turbo bonet looked , So they did some with and some without.....Just depended on what you wanted to buy.....heres a pic, you be the judge, (Turbos only came in the coupeas far as i know)http://www.200sx.org/images/lowres/s12.jpg

I've seen a twin turbo Vette using 2" piping from turbo's to the IC, and then one 4" pipe from the IC to the throttlbebody. 2" is good from turbo to IC, and 2.5" to the TB's should be fine, looks like it's perhaps 2.25? Sure it's plenty.

how big do you need?! thats plenty big. intercoolers are over rated. you don't have to have the biggest. If you have an efficient turbo, its not going to heat up the intake charge much anyhow. there are lots of silvia's in jdm land making 600+ hp with smaller intercoolers then mine, and mine is smaller then wagz.
or just run alcohol and then you have the opposite problem...you have ice on your intake manifold from the alcohol fuel.

those intakes are actually noted to be higher hp gains than JWT and they save space - they just dont filter quite as well

They're the perfect size for twin filter fitment, unless he makes a custom fabrication. I believe the Apexi filters are the best for the Z other than the Blitz.

hey im from vt too, heres a pic of my car, it would probably be more immediately recognized as the "blue prelude" of the "lowrider type" that had its hood stolen while sitting in the cage parking lot at school. Needless to say it hasn't come back up here since then, not until I can find another place to park it. I'm gonna try to have it up here for April 11th though, so the H22a can come out and play with the Wahoo's at Natural Bridge. :D
