View Full Version : New around these here parts
Just thought I would say "hey"...so umm, Hey.
I'm a 5th year senior at Tech. You have prob. seen/heard my car driving around. It's that loud ass Carbon Blue 2001 Celica GT, with the license plate of "SLO-VTGT".
You can read the profile if you wanna know much about the car. I don't do road races bec. I can't afford to lose my license...had too many run-ins with the police around here as it is.
I am up for track racing though and def. just getting together to hang out, talk cars, DRINK BEER, etc.
See ya around Blacksburg.
Peace,
J
Ive been behind you before. Yellow R, used to have the old 271 stickers on the side.. I think you live near me. Welcome bro.
Rguy...hey man...i know exactly what car you are...seen ya around before...do you autocross i take it? I did the b.r.s.c.c.a event back in 2000 i think it was, came in 3rd in my class (all stock), had a blast, blah blah blah, lol...maybe i'll see ya around town.
Peace,
J

You guys are over there in college park phase II right? I can never get it in my head which one is phase II and not. I'm thinking of the beige vinyl siding ones that look like its fucking day time at night that damn parking lot is so bright. I get to hear your exhaust (VTGT) everytime you drive out on Chickahominy going out to Patrick Henry.
VTGT, i autocrossed a few years ago but recently got into road racing and road course events so thats what the numbers were for. Cya around.

Just fyi, road racing is not street racing. Road racing is done at the track.

I've seen/heard your car a few times, and wondered why anyone would have a license plate like that on a GT...but I guess the n20 is why. What kind of times you run with it?
Nick
mpg9999: ahh, gotcha...i meant street racing, thanks for setting me straight...lol...
viper: yeah, phase 2 is like daytime all the time, haha, my gf lives in there so i am over there all the damn time.
myprobe: yeah, it was kinda like a joke at first and then i started doing mods and whatnot, so slo-wly it is getting faster. The next mods of a performance clutch and lightened flywheel will help me put down almost 240 to the crank, which won't be too bad for a 2400 lb car.
As far as times, i am not sure yet, but i am expecting very low 14s, maybe even 14.0-14.1 ish, the clutch and flywheel will DEF. put me no slower than those times.
Thanks for sayin hi.
Peace,
J

Welcome! That's one quick GT! Only thing I didn't like about them when I was thinking about one were the rear drum brakes. :barf: Oh well...I'm in a 2000 eclipse GT

Yeah, the drums in the rear kinda suck, but you know what, these cars still stop on a dime! :D They only hurt the appearance of the car...IMO, no big deal.
Hell, the RSX stops from 70-0 in 188 ft, and the celica does it in 166 ft.
Thinking about doing a swap with a wrecked GT-S disc brakes, just gotta find one in a salvage yard...heh.
The eclipse is a nice car, and you have loads of torque compared to my ass...lol.
Peace,
J
will help me put down almost 240 to the crank
100 more horsepower with just a 75 shot and a few bolt ons? You sure?

Good luck on the discs! And you're running a possible LOW 14 while I'm stock at 15.3 (reported) so torque isn't ruling this time! Oh well with the supercharger kit.......... :D
Rguy...the nx kit rates the HP to the wheels, so when you do the calculations, 75hp (to the wheel) translates to approx. 88hp to the crank, add in the exhaust and cai and we are looking at about (140+95ish = 240). NOS and some others rate the hp at the crank, NX does it to the wheels, so the numbers can be misleading...does that make sense or am i way off? lol
Peace,
J

OH OH OH...when are you getting that? :) I would sell one of my kidney's for TRUE FI (not nitrous).
That will be one mean Eclipse.

Let's say at the earliest this coming winter :( It IS $3,700 after all...but 326 wheel horsepower would put a smile on my face!

Lol..326 at the wheels from an eclipse? Why don't I believe that?
240 wheels on the Celi is kind of guessing high. I'd say more like 215-225. Good luck on it tho.

3.0 L V6...326 wheel horsepower supercharged...what's so hard to believe? The only thing that's hard to believe is that it would actually hook up in 1st through 3rd gears!
Thats 150+ horsepower more from just a supercharger! thats hard to believe. Its hard to get turbos to produce that much of a gain you know.

MyProbeisfaster: 240 is to the crank, as i stated earlier...205-215 is what i would expect at the wheels at best...lol, i WISH i was putting down 240 to the wheels, but i thought i said crank earlier. Oh well, i still love the kick i get out of it ;) I'm not saying my shit is sick fast, but it is enough to make me happy for NOW (but in about 30 seconds, prob. won't be fast enough :D)
Peace,
J
Justin,
Are you certain that there are no other upgrades included in this supercharger setup? i don't have boost, but i know a few people that run FI and usually from N/A to FI (supercharger) they don't see more than a 70+hp increase w/o internal upgrades, fuel upgrades, etc, etc, etc...i know of a celica GT that dropped in a SC and went up by about 100 hp, but that is pushing it, and i believe he had to upgrade some internals and his fuel system and such. If the stock V6 block of yours can handle it, then that would be shweet, but just be careful at what you are lookin at and do some damn good research on this setup.
Peace,
J
P.S. not trying to sound like an asshole, just making sure you have all the info and don't get ripped off or get a kit that will F your engine.

Yea I find it hard to believe at all that it'd be anywhere even remotely close to 326 at the wheels. No offense, but Id think you'd be very lucky to even gain 70whp from it like they mentioned. Superchargers first off generally dont add as much as a turbo would, and although I know very little about your motor (sorry but the DSM guys seriously hate that car and therefore I havent taken the time to learn much about it) I would seriously doubt that you would gain nearly that much power. I would think 60whp might be a good gain, maybe 75whp at most, but remember you will be running stock internals, and the parasitic loss from the Supercharger alone willl suck power away. Find some hard figures and proof of this gain and maybe Id believe it, but PLEASE do not get taken in by retarded power claims and falsified dyno charts that you see, as I have seen so many people throw their money out the window doing that. It is very difficult to pull figures from a 3g eclipse even the V6 model, sorry bro.

Very good everyone...after closer reading (getting to the bottom of the page..lol) I figured out that yes, I am just another dumb consumer. The kit "has produced" 326 whp with internal upgrades... just the kit produces 285 whp. website:
http://www.rippmods.com/products/products_list_details.asp?menuid=3&vehcName=Mitsubishi+Eclipse+V6+%2D+2000%2B&vehcCat=Engines&vehcDesc=Supercharger%20Drive%20System%20V6%20Mits ubishi%20Eclipes&productId=72
Well we are just trying to help...at least you know what you are lookin at now and know what to expect, etc.
p.s. 285 hp, still ain't too bad...that would be a much more fun car to drive with those figures ;)
Peace,
J
It says just the kit produces an addition 100 whp, which is probably tuned by them and not just bolt on. so say you lay down 170 stock, thats about 270 whp tuned correctly.

I was talking about 3g, and with that s/c kit. Seemed outrageous. I'm hoping for 245-260 whp when I'm done, but who knows what it will be in the end.

Guess you havnt seen an sr20 ;)? 400 hp an a stock bottom end, oh yeah !:D

forget about the s/c kit, go find a 3KGT VR4 in a junkyard and pull the turbos, manifolds, and IC's off it. much cheaper. way more fun.
marshall
mpg9999: ok, you got me there, i was generalizing for the most part. The 3s-gte is another engine that can endure a lot of shit on stock internals, but i was saying in a more "general" sense.
Good call though, didn't mean to piss the sr20 owners off ;)
