Hey man that sucks.
They also screwed me. Last year at this time I sent my GST down there to get a new timing belt and water pump as well as an inspection. They called me the next day and told me that my aluminum pulley was cutting into my belt and that it must be replaced with a srock one. This was a bunch of b.s. (I think that they just wanted my part), so I told them not to fix it. Then they called told me that my suspension mods were illegal and were threatening to fail me for inspection, if I did not put the stock suspension back on (I also think that they just wanted the parts). I had Eibach call them to tell them that my springs were street legal since they were specifically manufactured for my car and meet virginia statutes. Finally, I supplied them with new brake pads to be installed, I think that they took my goods ones and supplied me with shitty ones. These guys are very sketchy.
To top it all off my car was only supposed to be there for a couple of days, but they ended up keeping it for like 3 days longer than they were supposed too. Well by that time I had to be back at school and my dad had to bring the car back to me. My dad does not know that much about imports so he did his best to make sure that I was not screwed or that they did not steal anything from it. However, after inspecting it I noticed that they stole my manual boost controller and scractced my racing hart's trying to get them off. After flaming the manager he supplied me with a new boost controller. Other friends of mine with DSMs have similiar stories. I am sorry man.
My advice look over every sqaure inch of the car when you get it back. When I was down there looking at cars for my mom this weekend I noticed an orange turbo with a blitz kit in the repair area is that yours?
by no means does a dealer should work on your car...unless its for warrenty.

well its like european cars when something goes wrong their goes ashit load of money... thats why i dont talk my car anywhere ill figure it out my self like i had radio supression relay replaced(tied in fuel injection to weird) and the speed sensor.. cause my would die out and not restart... come ot find out by jiggly the wires the fuse box that i narrowed done the fuel injection/ main fuel fuse socket was bad.. i fixed it for free they charged me 350 bucks toget it done...
i dont think it was a good idea you brought your orange dsm to the dealership. i mean would it have been that hard to do all this stuff yourself?
Yeah, theyre straight tearing you a new one. First off, if your confident enough to put a a new turbo on, you should be able to do fix the other stuff. Secondly, all you have to do is tell them no. Third, you brought it to a dealership.... enough said. And lastly, its a DSM. Im sorry that your having all these problems, i can really empathise with you. I do however think that you should have done something different...

WHy didn't you just buy a new altenator and put it on yourself? I'm not sure how hard it is on your car. BUt you may have been able to just have your Altenator rebuilt but I went to them a while back and they pissed me off because they wouldn't take my Car til I took my old Body Kit off.

Doesn;t mean all that stuff went wrong because your pops hit it with the wrench, might have been like that and not notice. Have had that stuff happen to me b4. I agree that dealer should not lay hands on it unless warranty, but that place is ok. But i could biased cuz my boy works there

Sounds to me like you need to get all the parts back, tell them to give you the bill for labor, and take that shyt to a place that can fix it, then send those bastards the bill for anything you had to replace. Hall on Jefferson tried to sell me a Celica 87, identical to mine, and tried to tell me there was nothgin wrong with it, when the engine was straight knocking in idle, and got worse when you drove it. Then, I overheard them saying crap about the car was already sold to me, because I was a girl. I straight walked up in that office and told him that I'd do whatever the fuck I could to make sure that they never got any buisness. I worked as a part time mechanic, I'm not about to take any shit from some high class overdressed, bad hair cut car dealership guy. You get your stuff back, and if you're close to Rte 17, go to Dare Automotive. Theres a guy there named Chris, he knows what he's doing, the guys a genius. Tell them Matt's sister sent you, I'm pretty sure it might help out. But they know their shyt, and they wont charge you an arm and a leg for something that you don't need done anyways.

I had them do a recall on the ball joint on my 96 eclipse, I had heard so much shit about them that I thorughley checked to make sure it was done right before I took back posession of it. It looked to me like it was done right, but then again, my car was stock at the time. No telling what might happen now.

yo 2EZ2SEE I just thought of something.
I don't know exactly what kinds of problems you were having before you changed the alternator, but last year had a problem like this too. Mine would not hold idle, so after I took my foot of the gas it would sputter and die. Since this was right after hall f'ed me I was reluctant to go to the mechanic so I tried to diagnose and fix it myself. I did a once over of some of the basics and noticed that my positive battery connection had a lot of corrosion on it. After cleaning it off I also noticed that it was barely connecting, turns out this was the source of my problem and it was causing all sorts of electrical and idle problems. For some reason my car is very suseptible (sp?) to its battery connection, and when it was not connecting right it behaved as if the ecu was broken.
Long story short I went to Autozone and bought a gold plated battery connection, wired it to my battery, and now it connects perfectly. Doing that solved all of my problems. Sometime it is the simplest things. I am not saying that this is the source of your problem, but it might be worth a look. Also you might want to check and see if there are any leaks in your IC pipes. Just trying to help. Good luck man. I feel your pain.

factory ecu $975 + $400 labor. That sucks, you could have bought an AEM EMS or some other standalone for less than that. This is my philosophy, when something breaks on your car, just replace it with something better. ECU breaks=buy a nicer ECU. Brakes need replaced=buy cross drilled rotors and nice pads. Clutch slips=buy a better one. When your car breaks it is not always a bad thing. A lot of times more desirable aftermarket parts cost less than OEM replacements. If you get your car back let me know and I'll let you use my logger on it to see what codes youre throwing.

Best way to troubleshoot a EGR valve is to use a vacum gauge. EGR valves always use to give me problems in the past..

I totally agree with you Scott. It's easy to point the finger at the dealership when you are the customer. You authorized all of the work to be performed. You could have just not given any authorization for the work when the service advisor contacted you. Hey, some people pay over $900 for a ecu, thats what honda charges retail.......................

Its one thing to authorize the work and have it fixed, its another to authorize it and have the dealer not fix the problem. Most dealers will know how to fix a stock vehicle, but when you modify it (like adding or upgrading a turbo kit) the dealer has no idea what they are doing. I definitely wouldn't take my car to honda to have them tune my hondata, its just common sense. So in other words, if your car is basically stock the dealer should be able to fix it... if you your car is modified you may want to take it to someone that has experience working on modified vehicles.

after reading this thread i'm kinda pissed. do you know what we techs at dealerships have to deal with on a daily basis? i know its the same bullshit, if not at hall, casey, first team, etc. "everyone wants something for nothing" . An example a customer came in for a "timing belt replacement" he had his car towed in and this is what he asked for "i want my timing belt replaced, cause my buddy told me it snapped". ok so i pulled the timing cover off saw that the tensioner bolt broke. causing the belt to jump and get chewed. I called him told what happened and off he goes pissed off, "you guys are a rip off" blah, blah... then he said replace just "the needed parts " tensioner+belt ok so i did. well what happens most of the time when your timing belt breaks, the piston meets the valves. so i replaced what he asked for and the car wont start, bent valves. So i call him up and told him, and guess what were a "rip off" blah,blah...i get an ass raping. not really fair but part of the job, so now what he wants is a new motor installed for free. just one example of what goes on, if i could i would have everyone on this board spend a week at a dealership to see what we have to deal with. oh yeah most dealerships pay by job, example: they only pay us 1 hour of labor to replace a timing belt whether or not if it takes more than a hour usually it takes about two, but all we get paid is for an hour. how would you feel?
