EVO 8, EVO 8, EVO 8.
What more really needs to be said? The USDM Specs are out as of Jan 3rd. Td05 twin scroll turbo pushing out 19psi from the factory on 8.8:1 internals. Hollow cams, carbon fiber wing, fmic, 2 IC sprayers, enkei 17" wheels, recaro seats, momo steering wheel, 52/48 weight distribution, strut bars, heat vent in hood, hollow cams. 14" 4 piston brembo brakes up front, 12" 2 piston ones in the rear (thats right for all of you who actually just paid attention to what I just said). Same old proven 4g63 platform meaning tons of aftermarket support will very quickly arrive, as well as the HUGE potential of swappable parts to DSM's (move over honda :)). So let's all join in with me...
EVO 8, EVO 8, EVO 8, EVO 8...

I believe the quoted price by mitsu was 28500 accroding to motor trend magazine (the "official" price apparently). But I would expect there to be a slightly increased price due to the rarity of it in the beginning and the already overwhelming demand. We'll just have to see, either way I seriously wouldnt ever expect it to be more than 35, 30-32 would be more around my guess.
no ayc, no acd. that is what made the evo...the evo imo.
to me the evo 8 is just a factory souped up dsm with 4 doors.
but of course thats just my HUMBLE OPINION. so dont flame me CHRIS!!!:p :D
300hp/300tq, 2.5 liters of boosted boxer glory with a 6 speed, viscous LSDs with driver controll, brembos all around, IC sprayers, 8K redline.. and NO ALTEZZAS.
New WRX STi is going to own the Evo.

Damn straight, the STi will definately accept the evo 8's challenge. Now if subaru can keep it around $30k....
Do you have anymore info on the EVO's turbo. I keep hearing about it being a good swap for MR2's and Im too lazy to research it.

I agree it is goign to be very competitive, but jus as Dan I'm sure has found out it is an absolute pain in the ass to work on a WRX boxer engine. The 4G63 couldnt be more straight forward and easy to work on. In addition it is a proven platform and within the end of the year I am sure there will already be multiple 10 second evo's out there with the potential that car comes with. So the Evo isnt 300 f*cking hp big deal, I have already heard that so many times today since those specs have been released. Sometimes manufacturers detune a car before its released such as the Supra. Notice how the boost is 19psi at 3500rpms and 16.24psi by 6500? That tells me right there that the thing is being choked, most likely intentionally, and just like a BPU Supra will seriously be awakened with just minor intake and exhaust upgrades. I have a TD05-16g Turbo, which is similar to the stock turbo of the Evo and I can verify right now it will hold well more than 19psi all the way to redline, so something obviously isnt performing to its peak with the stock evo trim.
I love the Evo, you guys love the STi, two very similar cars and I give the STi the same respect as the Evo. I feel the Evo will be much more of a modifiers car than the STi will be and therefore have an advantage, but there are obviously some weaknesses of the drivetrain that mitsu should have left on from the JDM version.
I guess to some it up, I just couldnt always have to turn my head sideways to work on my engine :).
PS-once again Brian will be left in back in his NA. Poor engineering my ass :)

The evo's turbo is simply a TD05-16g with dual inlets on the turbine housing. Look up what a TD05-16g is and then imagine it with slightly better low end and spool up, thats all. The plain TD05-16g flows 505cfm @ 15psi, and is good enough for a little more than 300whp according to all the DSM guys, it would definately be a nice upgrade for a car of your weight :).

has anyone heard how much either of these cars is going to weigh?
just curious, but weight kills me since i drive an integra and just about every civic hybrid on the road can whip my ass.

I'm curious to see the performance #s for these cars. I'd love to have either one, but 30K I don't have to (or would) spend on a turbo 4 banger Evo/STi or not..

28500 is the price for the Evo 8 according to motortrend, although there is bound to be a dealer markup of some sort.
The wieght of it is around 3250 (a little more than your integra, but welcome to the world of performers, IE: Supra:3400, 300zx: 3700?, VR4:3800, DSM:3300) The only sports car out there I can think of thats light is the 7, and that is partly because it has no back seats and its motor is about the size of my fist :).

I want one! lol I would like to see more performance numbers on it too, I have seen 0-60 in the 4s, but no 1/4 mile times. Oh and 300ZX weights about 3400~3500lbs, and it has no backseats as well unless it is a 2+2 NA :) They are relatively the same weight as the supra, depends on who you ask. mmmmmmm evo drooooooooool

O ok thanks for clearing that up. The JDM Evo's pulled 4.6-7 for 0-60 and 12.9 as their 1/4. The american version will be different is my guess though.
We got a de tuned "americans are a bunch of fatasses" Evo, while the WRX STi is a one of a kind "americans are loaded, lets give them something special" car that the rest of the world will want.
Imagine, Japanese companies wanting OUR engines...excellent..
And chris, suck my NA ass.;)

as far as straight lines, you are correct.. however, there is a HUGE difference in the handling, braking, etc.. pretty much every aspect other than acceleration, the EVO is far superior to the DSMs in.. yes it has the same powerplant with a similar AWD system, but the car is a helluva lot different in every other way..
i myself would rather steal parts off it assuming they fit my DSM and keep my DSM though ;)

The main difference was the ayc and acd. That is the ONLY thing on the Evo that you Dsmers cant upgrade to. Hell you guys can get Altezzas too if you wanted. ;) Yeah its built on a stiff chassis...but unless your going to rally your dsm and fly 5 feet in the air and land on uneven GRAVEL which is turning into a Sharp LEFT, i dont think you will ever notice the difference.

actually working on my car my car isnt that bad at all. ( yes the uppipe was a PITA, and the injectors will be a PITA) but i know some people who work on both engines..and they say the ej20 is easier to work on than the 4g63. as far as aftermarket goes...the ej20 is just as old too so its definatly on PAR as far as the tuning goes as the 4g63...just not in the United States ( for obvious reasons).

i honestly don't see how any sober person could say that.. i understand that if i knew the EJ20 like i know the 4g63 it would probably seem a lot simpler too.. but to me the space i have to work with when working on my DSM compared to the space under the hood of a WRX is like comparing a mansion and a motor home.. of course you poor 2G DSM guys are in the same boat :p

I bow down :). I know only from the little experience I have with a WRX and the small bit I read about them, I have never really met any seriously modified versions, and I guess I just never see any seriously modified ones. After seeing your cramped engine bay I could only imagine working on that thing though. As Dave said I cant see anyone saying a 4G63 is harder to work on than the EJ20, but to each man his own. I think my roommate mike's B18C has to be the easiest looking engine to work on out of all of us. For the extra room he has under his hood I will always be jealous :).
I will give you one thing though, your fuel pump HAS to be easier to replace than the one on my car I just replaced the other day, dear god I seriously couldnt have done it without the help of my smaller handed friend, there seriously was just no way, heh.

To tell you guys the truth I really dont care actually which car wins out as the best overall, personally to me I am just so glad to see such amazing cars coming out making absolute break throughs in the world of automobiles.
Seriously, with all the recent arguments over which is better the evo or the STi, within the past few days I have all but forgotten the big picture until someone reminded me last night. Seriously instead of arguing, step back and just think about it. Before this year is over we will have not one, but 2 almost unbelievably performing all around imports. One with 271hp stock, and another with 300hp. Yes step back and just think about that one for a second, a stock 4 cylinder engine pushing out 300hp, all while both of them maintaining unbelievable traction, turning braking, and quality. The previously mentioned factors are the real thrill of these cars, and the fact that they come with that much power out of the box is just icing on the cake. The world of V8 muscle bred purely for straightline performance is quickly diminishing, and its being done while still having all the frills elsewhere and a car that still gets more than 20miles to the gallon and can still be considered the true meaning of the word daily driver, getting traction in all weather conditions, and not exploding when someone rear ends you. To this I think we seriously need to just be happy with what is about to take place.
We have been born in the best of times guys, lets enjoy every moment of it...

Do you not think that the new "mini viper" is fast? 0-60 in 5.9 is pretty nice if you ask me, especially for under $20k!

But have you seen the build quality of neon's? Their fucking frame is EPOXIED, I kid you not. It's a cheap car and it goes fast, but they skimp out in other areas to cut back on the cost. The skimping out hurts quality, and in my opinion chrysler has NEVER been one for quality no matter how fast the car is out of the box.

don't judge the SRT4 until you see it. it's a completely redesigned car. if it comes out, and then shows that is sucks, well, then make fun of it. as for a "mini-viper", i would never consider it being worthy of being associated with a viper. they have nothing in common other than company name. i want to see a new charget with that new hemi in it :D

Yea it's fast, but Cudas, Chargers, Challengers, Demons, etc. were a lot cooler than a completely reworked Neon that hauls.
As far as the SRT-4 and the 1G+2G Neons becoming compared, I wouldn't even compare them. The SRT-4 basically has a similar body/interior to a 2G Neon and thats it. Anything deailing w/the drivetrain is completely different, which sadly means almost none of the parts can be used on any other Neon.

Woooo. 2004 Charger R/T will own us all. As for the Neon: "booo". I respect the EVO's speed, but I'm not a fan of the look. If I had to choose between the EVO and the STi, I'd take the STi, but I'm not really a fan of the looks of that either.

found out that there will only be 5000 evo's shipped to tha u.s. by my calculation thats probably like one for each dealership.....is it true?
5000 mitsubishi dealerships in the US? I doubt it. Even if there were 5000, they send them to those dealerships that sold the most lancers or have the most orders for them already.

I hear that, definately nice cars.
About the 5000 cars produced, I dont know what mitsu's plan is, but if you remember Subaru's goal was to only sell 6000 WRX's this past year. They far exceeded that goal by selling over 18000 of them, which is partly my guess as to why subaru is willing to go all out here with the STi. I think mitsu is just trying to cover their asses by starting production small, and not giving it the all out punch it should have. I think however all 5000 will very quickly sell and then Mitsu will step up to the plate and begin playing some hardball with subaru, a little competition never hurt anyone.
Anyone have any specs on the new GTO coming out? What's brewing in the domestic world? They seem to be pretty skimpy for good cars these days while the imports are growing exponentially. Hope they can do more than just accelerate these days...
New GTO will have the Chevy LS1 5.7 litre vette engine in it.

Dodge has a lot of cool concepts coming into realities. The Charger R/T, Viper Powered Ram (Ram SRT-10), Supercharged Hemi Wagon.
Ford has made the 2005 Cobra the ugliest car ever and the GTO is coming over here.
